Going to take a day trip out to Ocotillo Wells and ride the motard on some trails and help the wife break in her new 150. Any seasoned off roaders up for tagging along and showing us proper dirt technique?!? I suck at it!
I downloaded the DVD "Skills 2" from Transworld Motocross which is a pretty a basic how to, but I have yet to watch it!

ok so we went out and had a blast out there... the motard deal didn't work out too well because its a little too soft for just radials. didn't really go searching for trails...
the new CRF150r kicks ass... my wife and I were just taking turns riding it. That thing has some power for a little bike... and it is really light! suspension was set more for her, but I still had fun riding around on it!
so now instead of dropping about a grand on a set of dirt wheels and tires and brakes for my motard I think im just going to get a dedicated dirt bike.
used of course... something under $2500... heres what is catching my eye at that price range:
Yammie YZ250F
Husky CR250 and CR125 2 strokes
250 4 stroke is priority but damn there are some really good deals on the pingers!
CRF250R would be nice but those are out of the price range I'm looking at.
anyone else have any other recommendations? i'm a total dirt newb... I want to not only ride in the desert but possibly try learning motorcross tracks as well.
Thanks!

Yeah, Octillo is rough on slicks. It's pretty good (but kinda boring) by the airport, and there are some hills and trails you can hit up that way as long as you keep your momentum up...
To this day, I've never ridden a dirt bike with knobbies on it....

they're fun! haha
I decided on a 125 2Stroke... something small and easy for me to learn on and tool around with!
plus it was cheap!!!!

i'm gonna find a way to mount the dirt setup on the 125 onto the 450SMR!
