need help with gear!

hi, i am new to riding and a first time poster, i have a question about gear. i weight 220 pounds and am 5'7 im guess i could be considered fat, but im more like stocky, if you know what i mean. all the jackets i read about like fieldsheer whick i have selected to be my first jacket) have sizing charts, but i have like a 46 inch chest but shorter arms. if i got the gear that would fit my chest, the arms would be hanging off my hands and stuff. is this something that happens to everyone? and what could i do to remidy this? (i dont have alot of money to buy a custom jacket) :squid:

Have you actually tried on the jackets? Looking at sizing charts and actually trying on jackets can be different.

I am a firm believer that weight is great down force! It also helps in corners when leaning off.

Try on gear, many places have great return policies, I once spent 2 hr. in c_ycle_gear and even went around the block a few times in different suits/jackets and boot combos.
I also know a local cobbler (the art of shoe making and repair), she's great at leathers also if you wanted to get sleeves brought in.

yea i havnt actually tried on any jackets yet, and i did try on a helmet, but i didnt like the fit. its hard to find places around here (long beach/seal beach area) that sell motorcycle gear, at least i dont know of any. and spewmonkey, thanks for the idea on that, but the jacket i'm pretty set on is the fieldsheer conga sport jacket, and its not a leater so i duuno if your lady will be able to bring it in a little...(but who knows?) anyne know of any good gear places i should try out here?

fun bike center has a bunch of gear, go there, try it out and then order it from BUYMOTO. haha. thats wut i did, havent ordered yet tho, will in a lil bit.

I pass by LB often (405 wise) since i work in El Segundo and off of Marine St is Del Amo Motorsport if you don't mind heading north for about 20 mins. Havent bought any gear there, but they definetly have a selection to try on. Once you find something in particular, you can order it from buymoto :thumbsup:

wow possibly i'll wait and go to the motorcycle show. but i really really wanna ride as soon as im done with the msf course (next mondday and sat, sunday! im so friggin' excited)

i have a First Gear jacket, its red/black/white, with some minor scratches. i think itll fit you and the wrists come tight so if it wont go past your wrists. it has vents for warm/hot days. reflective design for night riding. can send pics if interested.
