Me and electricity do not go together:rolleyes:
Wondering if someone can help me out. Im trying to connect my XM radio directly to my power source in my car, so my cigarette lighter is free.
Any takers. I m guessing it would be about 15 minutes of work.

Depending on what kind/year of car you have, there may be a power source/wire you can splice in the cab.
The simplest way would be to connect it directly to the battery (with a fuse in line, of course). In my truck, there is a small hole where the clutch pedal comes in, and a ran some wire through there to the battery. Then I pulled up some carpet under the consol and ran the wire under there to my amp. It didn't take more than 30 minutes. Just make sure you put a fuse where you connect the wire to the battery. 10 amp should be sufficient, and probably 12 gauge wire will work.

you want to tap into a switched source... meaning only on when you turn the car on (ACC Position) Cig Lighter might be ok for this. If you go directly to batt, you may inadvertenly drain it.

I would have to splice it in. I have no idea what to look for and where to look at.
Just for refrence, I am connecting the cigarette lighter adapter in the picture. I know it has to be spliced in somewhere.:errf:

What I am attaching has a positive and a negative.
So the positive goes to the red. Where would the negative go?
As I mentioned earlier.. electricity and I are worst enemies.
RED: To Electrical terminal controlled by igition switch (12V DC) ON/OFF
Black: Ground to vehicle body
Yellow: Terminl always supplied with power regardless of igintion position.

If you're willing to bring it over to my house, I'ld be able to take care of it quickly. I've got all the tools needed to do 12volt work. I also used to professionally install car stereos, so this would be a piece of pie... PM me when you'ld like to bring it over and I'll give you directions. If you're free tomorrow, I am as well.
