hey guys,
does anyone have a battery tender that can lend me a hand? my battery died on me and my bike is parked somewhere really inconvenient. i just need to recharge it so i can get it back to pangea. :squid:
Damn, sorry to hear did you try to jumpstart it in 2nd? Or have a buddy with a car to charge?
Seems like a lot of dead batteries lately.
But yeah, I have one you can borrow. You've got a PM.

i dunno how to jumpstart in second. how do u do that? might be useful the future. i thought a car would be too much power for a bike to charge

i dont really get the bump starting thing, exactly how do u do it?
Have the ignition on and RUN RUN RUN DOWNHILL 'FAZT', then let the clutch out, and it just might come to life, maybe. :guitar:

Is it your battery or is it because the bike's left in the cold?
Cause my '95 CBR F3 is not fuel injected and everytime it's left in the cold, it's a pain to start it up. Because the cold makes it hard for the fuel to vaporize and so it condenses and sticks to the walls of the intake. What I usually do is just sit there and rock it back and forth until the gas kinda warms up. Then after all that, put it in 1st gear, hold clutch down, push the heck out of the bike. Gain some momentum and then start it with a little throttle. If it's the batteries, then I don't know about batteries.. haha

You should be able to bump a 750 in 1st or 2nd gear. You can try and compress the suspension right when you dump the clutch (to help keep the back from sliding).
I've got one of those 12V power stations from costco; they are great for jumping bikes, too. Once you get it running, you should be able to get it home (just don't stall it!)
P.S. Bump starting twins sucks!
Yes, I forgot to mention that. It's better to bump it in second as there is less résistance, as Dissident said.
Also, if you are able to get it started, run the crap out of it. The bike doesn't start recharging the battery until ~5,000 rpms. But, you could have a bad stator, in which case your screwed.

What size [dimension] battery do you have? No-maintainence [sealed] or Low-maintainence [add liquid from time to time].
I just got through a slew of electrical gremlins...so if you continue to have trouble shoot me a pm and I'll be glad to trouble shoot it with you.

when i let the clutch out after gaining momentum, do i press the starter button? if i get momentum, and let out the clutch, wouldnt the bike immediately stop (and me falling over the front)? cuz the bike doesnt move in gear when its not running. it wasnt cold for sure because i just rode it there and came back like ten minutes later so it was still warm. my battery is a yuasa ytx9 battery, no maintenance. i just went and bought a new one. i tried starting it again last night and it almost came alive, but since i tried so much, now the ignition is really weak and the light flickers when i press the start button. i think it should be the battery because i had this problem before so the battery might be already a little bad plus i dont really push my bike that hard so it probably didnt recharge enough and it just happened to **** me that night.

bump starting; bike in gear, switch to ON position (don't laugh!), NO starter button. Just get momentum (lots!) and more or less dump the clutch. If the bike stops, you didn't have enough momentum OR there is some other problem (fuel, stator, spark, etc). Odds are, if you don't have practice, you jsut didn't get it. Keep trying.
OR, take the easy way; jump start it with another bike, car, or charging station.
Bike has carbs, right? You need to make sure it has some gas but also that you don't flood it.

Ya, but a battery tender takes overnight at least..
You can jump it just fine with a car; voltage is the same far as I know. I've done it to plenty of bikes without every having a problem.

My carbureted 900rr starts up perfect every time, the 2 times it started cranking really slow after 2 days I replaced the battery. I don't feel like being stranded because I'm too much of a cheap ass to buy a battery. If it sits for a long time I put the battery mender on it that cost less the $10 from kragen.
A bike is a 12v system as well as a car (unless its Hella old.) You can jump a bike with a car no problem.

sweet, is there anything different that u do when jumping a bike with a car than jumping a car with a car?

not really, just make sure you don't hook it up wrong and its really easy to arc the positive on the frame so be careful!
I have one you can borrow if you still need one. Automatic 12V etc, just pm me
