Here's my problem. I just got some new boots, Alpinestars SMX, and I'm finding that when I'm in my full leathers that I'm having trouble getting my foot beneath the shifter to upshift. I understand the leathers a still a bit stiff and need to be broken in, but I don't think that's my problem. Because the boots don't allow my ankle to move around much, I'm finding that I'm having to reach down with my entire leg to get under the shifter as oppossed to just flipping my ankle down or up. This is causing me to straddle the left of the bike more. So, I guess what I'm asking is 1. has anyone else had this problem, and 2. is there anything I can buy that will let me adjust the shifter higher without bringing the peg up (like rearsets) and how much? I'm 5' 6" btw. Thanks guys.

Rex

Yeah Rex, your boots and leathers have to get broken in. It's a different feel compared to shifting then sneakers. The more you wear them, the more easier you'll find to shift. I wear a size 45 (size 11) SMX -plus boot and it too was difficult at first.

Try doing squats while wearing your boots. Get on your tip-toes and then squat to break in the boots. I had problems upshifting as well when I got my shoes but once they broke in it was fine.

Yep, common occurance, happens to everyone when your gear is new. It'll get better ;)

Cool, thanks for the replies guys. Ardel and Ronnie were over last night and I was showing them my problem. Good to hear others know what I'm talking about. Man, riding in leathers has put me back to square one (not that I ever left). I feel safer, but it's a little hard right now trying to shift my weight, move an ankle, etc. Hope they loosen up soon. I don't feel to confident going up to the mountain and fighting the suit and boots at the same time. :(

Ack!

I had the very same problem. It will be difficult, but the solution is to get out and ride as much as possible! ;)

Hey Sean, I was thinking about doing that. A lot of people are telling me it'll get easier, and I believe it. But, I would like to raise the shifter peg so it's easier to reach for now. This way I can let the boots (and suit) break inwhile being relatively comfortable in shifting. Ok, gptechman....now what? Thanks bro.

So who's coming with us so Rex can de-virginize those leathers at Pally?

Ronnie,
Did you guys get that hugger on? And I'm not talking about your special undies. ;)

Thanks Sean. PM me a number I can reach you at...if you don't mind. It'll be cool to see the man in action. You going up to Pally this Sat? I think the SouthRiders are heading up, at least a few of us plan on.

Yeah, throwing on the hugger was a cinch, but the drill managed to rub some of the paint off. Doh! Man, I feel bad about that. Oh, and...you two are post whores! :-p

knockin' boots? man, you guys should change your name to Candyman. I'm not sure I like the sound of all this. What kind of initiation is this? I'd rather get jumped in not sexed in. :)
