View Full Version : Rescheduled! Official Hypercycles Maintenance Day & BBQ - March 10th

Where: BuyMoto
When: March 10th

--Wheel Removal Class @ 10 am
---Lunch at 12 pm
--Sprocket Service Class @ 12:30 pm
--Brake Service Class @ 1:30 pm

How this will work (for participants):
Step 1) Call BuyMoto - Pick a session. 858 536 2828.
Step 2) Tell us what tools you have.
Step 3) Purchase tools you do not have (Hypercycles members will get discounted prices).
Step 4) Show up, eat good (free) food, chill, play mechanic for a day.

Members and friends are also more than welcome to come and just observe the class sessions as well. Everyone can learn something valuable from these classes and we hope that you will be able to use your new found skills to save you guys some money and give you a better understanding of some of the simple mechanical aspects of your motorcycles.

This post will be modified to outline the tools required for each service. At minimum, expect that you will need a rear stand, metric sockets, and a torque wrench (for wheels and sprocket people). For the sake of moving things along there will be no sharing of tools except for the torque wrench. You will be assisted by the BuyMoto staff at all times and for everyone's safety we will only allow motorcycle owners to be near the bikes.

See you out there!

Due to circumstances surrounding personnel and timing, the maintenance day has been postponed until March 10th. This will give members further opportunity to sign up (there are still spots!). Please note that you do not have to work on your bike to attend the maintenance day. Although you may not have the best view in the house, it is still a good opportunity to meet other members and enjoy the day. We apologize for any inconvenience and hope to see you Saturday, March 10.

Sprocket Service Class @ 10 am
Lunch at 12 pm
Wheel Removal Class @ 12:30 pm
Brake Service Class @ 1:30 pm

How this will work:

Not to step on any toes or such, but wouldn't it more pertinent to have the wheel removal class prior to the sprocket class. Just a thought, since you have to remove the rear to replace the rear sprocket.

so you mean all those years people told me they slid in there by osmosis were wrong?

sprocket service sounds like the countershaft sprocket to me. rear sprocket is pretty self explanatory once you get the rear wheel off.

i dont get off work till 230. anything gonna be goin on around then? i may stop by just to say hi.

My bike comes with a centerstand that lifts the rear wheel off the ground. Would I still need to get a separate rear stand?

Correct, you will not need a stand in this case. Lucky you!

Thanks for the feedback Pathogen-san. We modified the class schedule. However, one method to remove the front sprocket requires keeping the rear installed on the bike and on the ground.

I'm sure Jae will provide an itinerary for each class session on what we will be demonstrating for you guys.

other method: rear brake pedal pressure applied by foot/friend.

It'd be really cool to see you and the fellas too! Been too loong! I'm flying up to the Bay Area that weekend to pick 'something' up... I'm hoping to make it back down early enough to get to this event as well. I hope the roads are kind to me on the way down!!

That's the idea of the maintenance day. You get all the tools you need and we show you how to do your maintenance. That way you never have to borrow tools again or go through the usual learning experience where you start the project and have to make 5 trips to the store to find what you forgot to get the last time you were there.

JUst a reminder for everybody else, today's the last day for everybody to sign up. If you wanna participate give us a call at 858-536-2828 or email me at matt@buymoto.com and let me know which session you would like to participate in and what tools you have/don't have and we'll get you ready for Sunday.

Ha ha....thanks for the Sushi Cidney, it was awesome. The attention to detail made all the difference. Thank you to everybody that came...we hoped you all enjoyed it, and are looking forward to more frequent BBQs in the future. For those of you going on the ride tomorrow, we'll see you bright and early (remember to set your clocks ahead), and for those who aren't, have fun watching MotoGP. Don't ruin it for the rest of us who don't see it till tomorrow night. :o) Remember to use the ***SPOILER*** warnings.
Peace!
