I stripped the threads on one of the bolts that mounts my passenger pegs on the right side. Is there any way to still use this peg? It appears to be stripped also, so it's not just the bolt. What if I got a slightly larger threaded bolt that is otherwise identical?Any suggestions....

btw, the other bolt on that side is fine.

Is it retapable? Have you ever heard of helicoil? If you need to retap I have a tap and dye set. Helicoil basically puts in a new thread to the affected one, kinda hard to explain.

yeah...helicoil is the way to go if you want to do it right....otherwise you have to retap for a larger bolt...

the kits are a bit expensive though - $115 and up...

you can rent a tap and dye kit at an autoparts store for like $7 if you decide to go that route...

there's a thread ont he R6 board about a guy who just stripped the thread on his crank case....ooops...

then he broke off the tap....double ooops...

Damn R6s just eatin' up bolts. :D

How hard is it to retap? The helicoil kit seems like the best route, except I can get a whole new peg/bracket set up for $73.00, which is less than the kit. If retapping is easy, and I can get some help:whistle: than I would like to do this. Don't want to take any chances with my girl riding on the back though!

ahh...should've read more closely...passenger peg..gotcha

bring it by...I'll fix it....

helicoil might be a bit much for that...much easier to retap, get a new bolt....other option is to stick a bolt that goes through and put a nut on it...

call me about it - 858 - - 974 - 4338

I hear ya bro, and lets see that pic i've heard so much about:whistle: Seriously though, I rarely ride two up, but the fact that I am willing to sacrifice my beautiful bike with some UGLY passenger pegs says alot. I know my lady appreciates it. Thus, she lets me go out and play on Paly much more often. It makes her feel as though she can relate to my tremendous love for riding.

note: passsenger pegs suck and I really don't like them.

OR you can borrow it from me for free if you go that route.
John is just overprotective of me sometimes and hates when I borrow "stuff" to other men :-p

So if FBC did it why didn't they replace it, just curious

long story, but they said they didn't have the tool they needed to get the bolt out that day, and the guy that broke it doesn't work there anymore.

Ah hell na, I would be there until they fixed it, regardless of which guy broke it. That employee represented a business not himself as an individual. That business is obligated to repair or replace what "they" have broke. Dood I am all about this stuff and I hate it when a so called "customer oriented business" treats customers in that fashion. If it was me it would be on like a pot o' grits. Need back up call a braddah ;)

well that's part of the story,it was half through FBC and half between myself and i guy that worked there that i bought a front wheel off of. i don't know if that made sence,it's hard to understand without telling the whole story. Plus it was almost a year ago.
i'm sure i could go down there and talk them into taking the bolt out, but if i could i'd rather just do it myself and not have something else brake.

ah man you got me all worked up over nothin :-p
No prob getting that thing out all you need is a easy out that you can buy at any auto place or see if someone here has one. It is a piece o cake and I can help if you get the part.
