This is the usual route me wife and I take on our rides from Santa Monica:
1) 405 North (20 miles)
2) 14 towards Palmdale (11 miles)
3) Off at Soledad Canyon turn right follow for 15 awesome miles
4) Hook up with Angeles National Forest towards Pasadena
5) Left on Upper Big Tujunga for 9 miles to Angeles Crest Hwy
6) Left to Wrightwood or right to Mt Wilson, then La Canada.
Great roads, not too crowded if you get out early (especially on weekdays), wide open sweepers, and NO COPS (sometimes).
