See? That's one of those roads that shouldn't have a dbl yellow! Clear visibility and no driveways, so why is it double? Read somewhere (wish I could find it) that cities paint no-passing zones everywhere because those roads are elligable for more funding... Dunno if it's true... always a conspiracy ;)

Er, otherwise, who cares? =)

I somewhat agree...but most traffic rules and suggestions are based on less than average drivers driving vehicles that aren't of the best performance. There were plenty of passing zones though, and he was leading a newbie ride. He passed safely, but set a bad example, and it can put a less experienced rider in a position to try to keep up for fear of being left behind.

I'll agree, in that situation, it was an irresponsible pass because I knew there were newer riders along. If I had been the only bike, it would have been more OK.

I will disagree with you on the statement on frequency of passing zones, I don't think I saw more than a couple for that entire stretch on S3, and most of 78 east of the S2 once it got twisty. The ones that I do remember seeing, I made a conscious choice not to utilize for fear of having one of the riders in between Matt and myself trying to squeeze in a pass, trying to keep up.

Well said, Matt, here and when we talked in Borrego about it. Good reminder for me to remember that there is always something to learn.

Ha ha, sorry to catch you in the act. But to be fair this was after we left Julian and there were only four bikes left. No big deal. Still funny though. I guess you just couldn't wait any longer, the suspense must have been killing you. :roflmao:
