Decided to skip Saturday practice and head up for the Sunday races. The practice sessions in the morning went great (to me at least). I was just relaxing and chillin but I somehow managed to set a personal best of 1:31.3 -- 1/2s faster than my previous best.
After a loooong wait for the 2nd to last race for Middleweight novice, I finally head out with the wind picking up pretty decent and temperatures around 100F i think. The start of the race went well with me in 3rd by the entrance of turn 2, but during the start I had saw someone crash not far from the grid! The race was red flagged. I'm not sure what happened, but the rider that went down was either ran into or a clip-on or brake lever or something was clipped. The rider was on the track for a while being attended by officials and paramedics. Later on, I heard it was just a broken collarbone though the rider was not moving for a while. According to mylaps, the rider that clipped the fallen rider did not restart... I'm not sure why as there was only one rider down.
After a wait, we restarted with a grid of 17 riders and my start was not as good as the first, and went into T1 on the outside three-wide. The rider next to me checked up and drifted out and I thought I was going to do some offroading for sure as I was already in the marbles, but fortunately I had some room to squeeze by. I was stuck behind a slower rider in 4th by T3 and I could 1st and 2nd start to gap me. Unfortunately, I don't have the balls to pass in T4-T6 so I had to wait til T8 to pass. Once I passed, I tried to really put the hammer down and on lap 2 I made a pass on the outside of 8 (scary) to take 2nd and on lap 3 braked into 3 to take 1st. After about lap 4 or 5, I didn't see anyone behind me, so I decided to back off a bit and try to relax to finish the race. I ended up doing my best time then during my last lap with a 1:33.2 on new tires, compared to a 1:31.2 in practice on take-offs! Anyways, I was pretty stoked when I got to the checkered flag first, but didn't remember if you were supposed to go one more lap or not after the checkered flag. So I kind of went faster than I should have on the cool down lap until T4 when I saw a cornerworker clapping lol.
Sorry no pics, but I couldn't stop smiling :D Hopefully, I'll be doing some expert races next time when I get my cornerworking out of the way once I get some Dunlop contigency $ :). Thanks everyone for their help this weekend, the fellow WSMC riders for helping me with so many things, Brian for the tire warmers and generator and suspension advice, Jason Turner for the suspension tips, Big Headz for their support, Hypercycles, SCS, and R6MN for answering all my stupid questions, the WSMC office and Amy for being a great girlfriend, cheerleader and pit crew.
