Just got done with the MSF course. I'm not going to lie, but it was fun and some of the people there were great...****load of marines but that didn't suprise me. Anyway, this was the first time I ever rode a motorcycle (The crf50 doesn't count because it has no clutch). All I need now is:
-dmv test for license
-gear (all of it)
-New battery
-Oil change/service
-New gas tank (Apparently, the 2003 sv650s tanks were faulty and I doubt the owner had it fixed because this bike only has 2200 miles on it and it was garaged for a long time.)
(Aye... Mods move this to Newbies Corner.. MSF instructional course thread.)
I had a great time doing the MSF years ago. I met some really cool people that were really excited about the world of motorcycles. The instructors love the sport and their attitude is infectous.
For gear and battery www.buymoto.com (http://www.buymoto.com)
We can give you advice on what gear and why, as well as hooking up a great discount.
You have a great bike in the SV650 and many members on the site know ALOT about that bike. Congrats!
p.s. What seems to be the problem with the tank?

There was a recall on the '03 - '06 SV650/s tanks. See the following link for details :)

Thanks. You have to be.. ermm.. blind to not pass it. It was sooo easy. Some older lady was having difficulty with the turning technique plus other stuff like the two U-turns in that limited space. The lowest score in our group was only a minus 13. (I think it was 21 you fail). I can't lie but I got -5 points. I went through the wrong set of cones once and that was my only mistake. Lol.
Also some old guy that looked like Santa Claus layed his bike down but that was only during the training. He was going like 2mph around a tight turn and I guess that little beast was too heavy! I felt bad for the gramps tho. It is always those innocent people and at the same time it's kinda shocking to know they will be on motorcycles soon.

Sweet. I just don't know where to start!! I need so much crap! On one hand, I can read about gear reviews but that is as far as one can get on the internet. The part I need help with is that actual fitting on and seeing what the gear is really like in real life. For now though, I am getting more information still. I'm potentially looking at Arai helmets. A battery and a mechanics guide/owner's manual are the ultimate priority as of now.

Congrats on completing your MSF course. This was the BRC correct? Doesnt that course negate you from taking the License test at DMV?
I took the MSF BRC years ago and got a piece of paper for DMV and got my license then!
Take the ERC when you can; you'll learn much more and you will much more fun!
See you at the Track someday!

You still have to take the written test at the DMV.
If you already have a permit then you can just walk in and get your M1.
If you don't, written test with like 25 questions. Easy as hell if you take it right after the MSF course.

Does the ERC have any tests in it? I bet it could help with insurance or add other benefits. It sounds fun as hell. My favorite drill in the MSF BRC was weaving in and out of the cones, exaggerating the leaning motions.
(Then again those bikes were small)

Your SV will handle a lot better than those bikes do above 25mph.

If you have your permit and passed the MSF course, you just walk into DMV and get your license. You have to pay a fee of course.

And remember to smile pretty!
I think my fee was somewhere around $30. Basically the fee to get a new license just like if you lost it.

:squid: I rode my fifty around the block. :squid:
I am getting ready to sell the crf 50, but other than that not much progress with the bigger one. I guess I am just putting it off till the quarter ends. Which reminds me: "procrastination is like masturbation.. in the end your only f@ckin yourself." roflmao

That probably isn't appropriate to post but it sure is Funny!...and I suppose, TRUE also.
Yes, I giggled again...I don't know why I giggle all the time! Haha

Yeah.. I actually thought twice about posting that. But oh well, who cares. This is no pony riding club. Motorcyclists don't look back. No pun intended.
