Hello everyone I'm new to this awesome place. Just wondering if any of you ladies or even men have had your bikes lowered? What are your inputs on the subject?

What bike are you talking about? I lowered an EX250... Can be done.

I have had my bike lowered, however it will change the handling of the bike. It is best to get it lowered before you start riding it IMO, but it can be done. What kind of bike are you talking about?

I have a 2008 Kawi 250. I'm 5'3 but I can touch the floor ok. My brother just suggested getting it lowered but thought i should get some input first.

I would suggest taking the seat to an upholstery shop and have them shave it.

As mentioned, lowering it will affect the overall handling.

p.s-08 250=awesome bike!!

If you don't really need to do it then I would avoid it. If you are having trouble being comfortable, then lower it. As you get more experienced you will get more comfortable with keeping one foot on the peg and one foot on the ground. Takes a little practice, but it gets easier.

I'm short (5'7"), so i have some experience with tall bikes. In fact they are all tall at my height, LOL. BTW thanks for posting the short people thread in the girls section. My short a$$ is going to cry now... :hammer:

Good luck and as Arnold mentioned sometimes a little seat shave is all you need!

I've resisted lowering my r6 and aside from having to get off my bike and push it backwards into a parking spot, keeping one foot on the peg at rest is not an issue now.

If you're skinny too then the problem is compounded some more because the suspension settles not at all when you sit on the bike. One solution would be to wear a backpack with 25 lbs dumbbells inside to help out. It gets tiring on long rides though (not that I've done it myself or anything). The seat shaving sounds like a good idea too!

Alright thanks; that seat shaving sounds better than having the handling change. The only time I have a problem with being too light is when its windy. Its really easy for me to get tossed around especially because my bike is so light.

I have a pair of riding boots that have lifts on the inside (you'll have to drop some $$ but I swear they are worth it!!) I am only 5'3" and ride a stock height 02 R6 and as a fellow shortie I feel your pain. I didn't want to lower my bike because of the handeling issues it could have, honestly I learned to deal with it. There are times when it can be an inconvenience (when you are facing down hill is the worst!) but most people are super cool about helping you if you need it. (just ask the select few that have helped me pick my bike up after dropping it on a hill :-(

You just need to determine what is going to make you feel the most comfortable.

The new 08's ROCK BTW!!

Get the seat shaved first... my friend told me Jim's Auto Upholstery‎ will do it for 20 bucks... (858) 268-8531 --- lowering the bike really messes with the handling...

If after the shave you still have problems... then lower it

I'm 5'2 and ride a 02 ninja 250 with no problems. Good luck!

+1 on the shaving seat idea. my homeboy like 5'3 and he had no problems after shaving his seat on his 06 gsxr750. unfortunately, his bike feels like ur sitting on the tank itself, but you can still touch the ground!
