So I know I told you guys a couple weeks ago about getting hassled by cops on base for working on my bike and having it all apart (adjusted valves). Well about a week ago I actually got a ticket from this prick (oops, I mean cop) for changing my oil. I didn't even know I couldn't do that. It was a civilian cop but working on a military base.

I could see if I was spilling crap everywhere but it was clean all around me. It was sorta late (like 1am in the morning) so maybe they had nothing better to do. I'm glad I'm moving tomorrow.

The ticket doesn't cost but it adds points to the decal that allows me to get on base and once it approaches a certain amount of points I lose the privilege to drive on base. This was my first ticket on a base and I don't plan on getting another but I wonder if I should fight it just so I don't get the points.

Working on a vehicle in the parking lot. Even though it's the parking lot of the place I live at.

no point fighting it, its a pretty standard rule on base (hence why they usually have a hobby shop to rent spots from for doing things such as oil changes) and also most apartment complex parking lots

^+1 ... you'd have to get quite a few tickets to lose your priveleges. I believe it resets each year.

Hell...I technically can't even work on any of my vehicles in front of my house. Luckily, I have pretty cool neighbors. It's the HOA natzies I have to look out for.

Don't bother fighting it, I have known a lot of people who have gotten lots of tickets on base and none of them have lost their base driving privileges. Yours isn't even a moving violation - so no worries. I think the only infraction that leads to real punishment is DUI.

What base are you stationed at? I am guessing North Island?????

I thought so. I think I have seen you a couple of times on base. I have the blue and white 97 GSXR 750 with the number 925 on the back.

Yeah this totally sucks. I'm technically not allowed to work on my stuff in my apartment but I do anyways. I mean seriously - what are we supposed to do?

I wait until my homeowners assoc prez who lives next door and his wife are both at work, then the work begins =) I change my oil in my work parking lot sometimes. Also, small business parks are closed on the weekends. Sometimes if I need to do a brake job, I'll just load up the tools and hit up the business parks. Very private. You can even cuss at the top of your lungs when you cut your finger open and no one will care!

These days, I'm getting more bold or lazy...just doing everything in my parking spot at my condo complex.

Wow, I've never heard of someone getting a ticket for working on their bike. I'll have to use this as marketing material to get people to come to Privateer's Garage for their motorcycle maintenance needs. We have all the fluids and tools, recycle your oil, and have military discounts!
