ok seriously how do you initiate a rear tire slide like that? not that i want to ever do it, but if its sliding doesnt that mean you dont have traction and doesnt the rear wheel not having traction lead to high-sides?

highsides are a result of being off center and then regaining traction, if you are smooth, both tires can slide throughout the whole turn.
to start a slide like that, break hard untill you are almost only on the front, release clutch and lean. the clutch is how you control rear slides going into turns, the throttle on the way out.
there is almost no weight on the rear when you break hard, so a quick downshift and clutch modulation causes the rear to spin slower than the ground and go sliding. this is all made easier the more you are leaned over( easier physicaly, not as in easy to do skill wise).
the rear break isnt touched

i love that bike... it's so like, light and well balanced... feels good just SITTING on it. boyf claims he slid out his rear end on it on a ramp a couple days ago... maybe u can ask him how to initiate a rear tire drift.... his handle is mrdangle

I thought the 1000RR was like a brick (looking at sheer numbers) when compared to the weights of the new R1 and the ZX-10R.

maybe so... i didn't sit on the kawi but in my opinion the balance of the RR is better than the R1.... so the R1 feels heavier by just sitting on it....
OMG!
that commercial was ILL!
