Hey fellas, Derrick here. I'm the founder and original president of the Bruin Motorcycle Association at UCLA. Bodmaster miraculously found us through our official UCLA website, and we're happy to be on board with you boys.

We have about 50 active members right now, and we go on weekly rides around town. So far, we haven't thrown any formal events, but our guys are a rambunctious group of riders with many great ideas.

I'm excited to see what our two clubs can do together. I think there's a great opportunity to create something bigger than ourselves. Between SD and LA, there must be at least a bajillion collegiate riders like us.

Perhaps this is an intramural racing league in the making?

OK, OK, I dream vividly.

Anyways, nice to meet you all.

Peezaut,
-D

Awesome to see you here Derrick! Yeah, it's real cool to meet another fellow UC student who took the initiative to get an official campus club going at UCLA like we have at UCSD.

I too am very excited to see what our clubs can do together. Hypercycles at one point had a membership of around 350 members before we had to start from scratch due to some unfortunate circumstances... but we're slowly getting our friends back to the club again. Sharing information and experiences between our clubs will definately be a valuable asset to new membership as well!

Also.. I don't think an Intramural racing league of sorts is too out of the question... although doing an Isle of "Campus Loop" on YSR50's around various campuses might be frowned upon by University personnel, we could organize such events at controlled locations such as Qualcomm stadiums huge parking log areas, etc. Lots of things we can do together for sure!!!

bk

Thanks for the warm welcome, guys. Our members are happy to know that we've got some 2-wheeled bretheren down south in SD.

With this forum as a primary channel of communication between us, we can start making some interesting things happen. Ooooooh, I'm getting goosebumps.

Ride safe everyone, keep the rubber side down.

Welcome, Derrick! Cool logo - how do I get my hands on a sticker?

If anyone is itching to get to our brethren down south, you can ride along with me. It usually takes me 1.75 hours to get to the meet point (Shell on Mira Mesa); and about 1.75 hours to get home from the base of Palomar. But if your ass can't handle that much saddle time (mine can, but I like hanging out with my 2 year-old niece), we can drop by my brother's place in Temecula.

I am a stone throw away from UCLA, so I have probable seen/met some BMA members already. --Dre

Dre, glad you like the logo. I'm a designer by trade, so the logo was one of the first things I did when I founded the organization. Yeah, I tend to get all geeked-up over this kind of stuff. Unfortunately, printing custom stickers would be prohibitively costly, and our funding is limited since we're still such a fledgling club. But trust me, I've been itching to print some. You'll be among the first to get a sticker when that happens.

So guys, let's try to get the SD boys and the LA boys together for a ride sometime. I'll be checking out the boards for your SD rides and events. My girlfriend is in law school in downtown SD, so I cruise there often to get my quality time. However, I crashed my bike a few months ago, so it may be a while before I get back into the saddle.

Anyways, ride safe ya'll.

Derrick, did you ever get your bike fixed yet?

Bodmastah, I actually sold my baby to some guy who tore out her engine to shoehorn into a race bike. So her spirit lives on, just not between MY legs.

I've been eyeballing the 600RR, getting all glassy-eyed and stuff. However, my girlfriend, my sister, and my mom have banned me from motorcycles just because I've had 2 crashes. Clearly, they don't know that I'm invincible.

But I'll get another bike prolly by this summer. They've been mad at me before, they'll be mad at me again.

Any recommendations for a good deal on a 600RR?

I know you guys like pics on this forum, so here are some shots of my most recent crash. (http://www.djderning.com/nutcracker/) A BMW made a crazy u-turn in front of me, I flew about 50 feet thru the air. But it's OK, my nuts took all the impact. I have never had more people touch my nuts in one day.

enjoy!

Well just so happens.. that it looks like I may have a 600RR for sale! lol... what a coincidence no? I think it may already be sold though... but if not.. I'll let you know for sure. :)
