I just got back from the longest ride of my life!!So FAR!! Me and my Yamster R6 travelled over 1600 miles to Arizona and back. I experienced weather extremes:eek: 25 to 110 F , fatigue:embarrass:, even a little wild life and some of the most beautiful back country:-p .
This four day trek took us to Yuma, Phoenix, Mesa, Scottsdale, Gloge, Show Low, Pine Top to name a few....
The majority of people we met we quite nice and very intrested in what we rode and where we were from. We had a run in with a couple of R**necks. :grr: I will never forget the words that were spoken to us.."Boy, you must be lost!!" WOW!!
While on the road there was a comradre with other cyclists. Being cooperative while on the freeway and tag teaming the traffic to giving the polite wave.
A trip that I will not soon forget!!
What about you?

Awesome thread. Quite an epic journey on a sportbike. Do you ever think of officially entering the Iron Butt (http://www.ironbutt.com/about/default.cfm) club?
Here are my tales of long rides-- (don't mean to show you up or anything, I just love riding my motorcycles... even though people try to warn me that the R6 isn't a touring bike):
Labor Day weekend 2002 (Thu - Sun) (http://img.aguto.com/020831_arizona), I decided I did not have enough miles on my new F4i. Thursday I started in Venice and rode super slab (10-15-40) to Flagstaff. Friday I started in Flagstaff and went to Grand Canyon via the east entrance and exited via the south entrance and wound up in Flagstaff again; went south and took a slight detour through Sedona on my way to Phoenix; hit Phoenix when they had record breaking heat (safety first: I was clad in full leathers with no perf or vents); since I could not make it more than 20 miles without having to stop and clear the sweat from my helmet and devour another Gatorade, I stayed in western Phoenix for the evening. Saturday I took the 10 straight to some other freeways until I reached Temecula and slept for a long long time. I rode back home Sunday, quite refreshed. I am not sure what the total mileage was, but it was up there.
This day I did about 500 miles on the F4i (http://img.aguto.com/030201), but it was a long day since my friend crashed quite a ways from home (in Santa Margarita?). We towed her bike home from there to West LA somehow, but I rode the entire way to her house, rode to the emergency room, then followed everyone back to her house, then finally made my way home. I have done this ride a couple times on my R6 (http://img.aguto.com/030511) as well (though without incident, and once ending up at Laguna Seca for a track day, then hitching a ride home in a pick-up truck with a DVD player).
The uber-secret Porterville Rally during Memorial Day weekend (http://img.aguto.com/030523_all). I wasn't too impressed with this gang as they were more focused on the ride there and back. While there everyone socialized in the pool while I took it on my own accord to ride to Yosemite and other places.
More recently, I was my friend's wingman(1) for a trip to Vegas the long way (http://img.aguto.com/20040313-14). We went through Death Valley to try and find some wild flowers. Then went through Mojave Preserve on the way back. (1) I took this trip because my deaf friend's T-Mobile Sidekick had just broke, and it would be a pain-in-the-rear if something happened on the road and she had to find a way contact somebody.

Honestly, I think DRE reigns supreme....
He is a true hypercycler...I mean the guy rolls down to ride with us at palomar and then takes pics in 100+ weather, and then rides back like it aint no thang, or somethimes he like to ride out to the track and rail("fast textile guy"), and then frickin ride back...
a true rider in the very best sense....

I don't know how far it was, but from S.D. to S.F. to Monterey for the motorcycle races camped for 3 days on turn 9 :D then went back to S.F. for a night then rode back to S.F. Long time on my bike.

Damn Dre is a machine. My longest was 1600 miles from Wichita, KS to San Diego. Took the scenic route through denver and Utah. Had the best time of my life. Rode my 1976 CB750 that I fixed myself and nobody thought it would make it. Have to admit, there was a small doubt in my mind, but that made it even more exciting. She rode without a single complaint, though. Good girl.
Got heat exhaustion after my second 9 hour, 600 mile day (pansy). Felt dizzy and nascious (sp?). I drank 4 HUGE cups of ice water and didn't piss for 4 hours after that.
I've always wanted to ride to Canada. I will do that someday.

Hey, birthdays are here but once a year, gotta take advantage of the free one day pass. :woot: :ko:
Just stumbled across this thread and wanted to throw in my $.02.
My brother and I generally take a 2 week summer trip on our bikes to various states to fish, drink, ride some good roads, introduce ourselves local law enforcement, etc.
Longest single day we ever did was from the northern part of Idaho (Coeur d' alene) down into Winnemucca, Nevada. It was about 700 miles, made that ride on a 1995 Katana 600. Cold beer never tasted so good.
We always leave from San Diego and have now gone to Montana (twice), Idaho, Oregon, Washington, and Colorado and just passed through several states in between. If you ever get the chance to sport tour, I can't recommend more highly. We've got some great pictures from our trips and stories that we will share for a lifetime. Just epic. Thanks for reading. :)

Do you guys try to avoid freeways and ride backroads???
It really depends. Once we get out of state we depend upon maps but since we are generally riding in national parks etc, the roads are 2 lane twisty mountain roads. :)
Sometimes we are trying to make the best time that we can if we have reservations at a cabin or something along those lines so we will use freeways but we do try and stay away from them as much as we can.

If you're ever looking for a third wheel......I may be interested in non-freeway trips. :D

Rode from San Diego to Berkeley in one day;
Took 395 and cruised through Kings Canyon/Sequia Parks, then cut over to 99. I was planning on stopping at some point, but it was in the summer and real warm, I just kept going. I'd guess it took me about 14 hours.
I was on my first bike, '89 GS500. Good times...

Hmmm, Road with my lady from SD to Yuma, Az. . I call that the HOT ride, because it was hotter than a mufugga! I guess it took us about 2 1/2 hours to get there, nothing to brag about, but you gotta have some balls to do that with a passenger, and in the summer! But yea...Wont be going there in the summertime again!
Started out in SD to SF in one day. From there I rode through Tahoe into Reno where I met up with a club. There were 10 riders plus an equipment truck. We took off from there the next am and headed west. We rode up through Eureka,Ukiah, Ft Bragg and through the redwoods. I think we covered every twisty road in Norcal. Eventually we made it back down to Monterrey, and on the way up stopped in and had breakfast at Alice's. From there I planned on heading back down to SD, but I left my keys to my car, house, and everything else at my uncle's house in Reno. I headed back up to Reno to get my keys, and we get to Donner pass and it's snowing! So everyone called ahead to Reno and had friends come over with trucks and trailers to get everyone home. Finally got back to Reno spent the night and took off down 395 to come back to sd. Yes, I was snowing on my way down through Yosemite. That sucked. Sorry to be so long but the consisted of almost 2500 miles. It was a blast.
