Oh man....
This is maybe why you should
A.) WEAR LEATHERS
B.) NOT GET A LITRE BIKE (assuming it was his first bike) FOR YOUR FIRST BIKE
C.) NOT TRY TO GUN IT WHEN YOU KNOW YOU ARE GETTING YOUR PIC TAKEN:clap:

lesson for the newbies:
1. face push-ups aren't fun
2. the only plastic that should be scraping the ground are the ones on your knees
3. leathers: don't leave home without them

Anyone know what he did to warrant such a crash? I'm thinkin highside since he's airborne on his face.

It was actually a lowside and just didn't have the throttle control gods with him

He could've gotten on the gas too early.
Looks like a low-side since the bikes on it's left after the left turn. If the front came out from under him, the bike may have more likely come off the rode at a straighter path. It looks like he got on the throttle and the rear spun, causing the bike to break dance on the pavement (hence it still followed the path of the turn and then spun like a top).
Or the two squirrels from the insurance commercial (Geico?) got in the way and then gave each other high-fives again.

wha wha wha WTF!?!?!?!... dude... do we know who that is?

05-31-2004, 10:12 PM
i have spun the tire out of that turn several times...could only imaging having an extra 50hp on top of that:eek:
hope he is ok.....honestly from the first pic he looks like he was doing ok, doesnt seem like a completely new rider, just made a mistake and got on the gas early.

Anyone knows if the guy is ok??

such a pretty bike too. Too bad that this will probably be the fate of about 50% of the liter bikes made this year...

Than again...I was going slow, from Potrero back home...my friends were well ahead of me...I was going about 56miles per hour ...and someone else from incoming traffic decided to cross the double yellow lane and smash right into me...with no warning.
That...was the only time in my life that I wish, I was able to just take off and fly, in less the a fraction of a second.
Who the heck would cross on incoming traffic?...Or make a U-turn when you know..bikes are coming from the opposite side like lightning! Cars too....
Like I said ..Pros on the track have bad days too...stuff happens..
Be prepaired...FULL GEAR ALL THE TIME! It make a lot of difference!
Take it from me. I survived a 56miles/hour head on! Don't ask me how fast the other guy was going?!That's doubble the impact!!!...I saw everything in slow motion...Woke up in the helicopter!
WEAR FULL GEAR!
I know:Everyone wants to go to heaven, but NO one is willing to die first.Well? This is fun what we're doing..and it would be more fun to do it, for manny years with no accidents.Ride within your limits! Or do it on the track..if you want to dragg knees.
Streets are unpredictable...

I REALLY HOPE THAT HE'S OKAY and I aint just saying that to say it. FU@K THE BIKE! Im sure he learned his lesson IF he was a new rider. Some people have to learn on there own. If this was one of my friends or someone I knew, I wouldnt like how ya'll are talking about him. Them's is fighting words. The worlds a small place. You might have even meet this guys before. Sorry if Im overeacting. Jus how Im reading this thread it doesnt sit right with me.

I hear ya Ronnie. Hope the dude is okay. It's sad that he went down, but I'm sure he was warned of the consequences beforehand. I guess it is easy to take a carefree attitude when it is not someone you know.

I'm not trying to stir things up. I guess, its just this isn't a crash from somewhere I've never heard of, or a place I've never been. Its a place where some of my closest friends and family ride. Whether there a squid or not, I care about there welfare and always hope they come home in 1 piece. I could careless about there bikes.

Here's what I posted on the link Arnold provided.
Here's his reply on the other board on what happened...
"I can't speak for the other guys, but I have been a liscenced and insured motorcyclist for 6 years. I have been through that turn faster than I was going. When I went through, I hit the bump a little wrong which compressed the suspension too much and on the decompression it took too much weight off the wheels and I low sided. That is my best guess as to what happened. I am fine. Enough Vikadin makes anything ok. I need to see an ortho something or other so he can tell me about my leg though."
Only thing I can say to that is...bad luck. But, riding for 6 years should have taught him by now to wear full leathers, especially at Pally. Turns out he's ok and even went to a BBQ that same night. All he had to get was a knee brace.
Oh, and yo Ronnie! I been trying to PM you! Empty your inbox I think it's full, and hit me up!

I understand what you are saying. A human life is a human life. But the fact is: the guy was not wearing full leathers. Maybe he was just going for a quick run to get some milk, or maybe he just thinks he is Superman, but it's hard to care about someone who does not seem to care about him/her-self.
Speaking from the other side: a friend of mine got cut-off by a car and low-sided at 50 MPH. Gear: jeans and a leather jacket. She knows better, and even owns the proper gear. She is all [expletive deleted]'ed up right now, but knows it was a bone-head thing for her not to be wearing full gear. A hard lesson for her, and just reinforcement to her friends to always wear proper gear.
To tell you the truth: this thread did not sit well with me the first time I read it, too.

I emphatically disagree with your first assertion. I have rode many times with very good friends at Palomar who did not have full leathers. Safety, self-preservation, self-care was very important to each and every one of them. Just because they wore jeans, it did not mean they did not care for themselves or any others, it was quite the opposite in fact. Yes, we do scoff at those wearing jeans at Palomar, or any twisties for that matter, but I don't think we can assume that any one of them does not care for their safety. I am not saying there are those who in fact do not care, but the majority have been those who are careful.

Alright, given that I used to wear jeans and a leather jacket, and know riders that still do the same, I will give you that.
I guess what I'm trying to say is: the people on this board are not wishing ill will on this guy, just using him as an example. We may sound cold and harsh, but we really do look after our fellow riders no matter what; even if they don't care about their own safety, even if they do care about their safety and choose not to wear full leathers. If it had been someone on this board, no doubt that we would give him [expletive deleted] for not wearing full gear; but that doesn't mean we wouldn't show any love.

Maybe he sold all his gear and his old bike to get the nice R1. Maybe he's saving up for new gear. Heck, all I eat is bread, water and Bryant's left-overs. Anyone know HIS story?
Nevertheless, if anyone knows the unfortunate individual or know about him, let us know he's okay and he'll be back up as if he was one of us of Hypercycles.

Hopefully this will be a lesson learned for sure. Let's hope he is not hurt too bad and can now be another good ambassador for wearing the appropriate safety-gear. :headbang: As we all know, some of the more prominent and effective motivational speakers have "been there before" at some point. Just so long as they don't "go there again." :errf:

Well in the first pic, he looks like he's still too much on the bike for where the lean angle/turn he's approaching. Plus that particular turn has a uneven patch that seems to claim many riders. At that lean angle, he should of been hangin off the bike, reducing the center of gravity. My .02
Well I hope the rider IS ok, and hopefully Palomar won't have a weekend like last's. :errf:
