Whos running it?
And is it 2 or 3 groups?

afrothunder
07-07-2004, 08:22 PM
fasttrack riders is running it.
its 3 groups... but there's not "lunch break" or heat exhaustion!

OK thanks
Looks like I'd have to go thru the Novice School.
What is the price? I'm kind of confused, because it says Fontana is $235, but then it says the Novice School is $100

afrothunder
07-11-2004, 12:42 AM
hey hans...
i believe the novice school is only $100, because you will
be in the classroom half the time, learning about race lines,
body positioning, etc. so you're actually not on the track as much as just a track day rider.

hope that answers your question!
if it doesn't... just give their 800 number a call and speak with dana.

Philo
07-11-2004, 12:54 AM
I thought the same thing. I was wrong. You have to pay BOTH the $235 and $100 for novice school, totaling $335. You actually get exactly the same amount of track time as you do in the other levels. Except between sessions, you do the classroom training/lectures.

hans
07-11-2004, 01:13 AM
$335 for one day, or both days? If that's just for one day, then wow, I couldn't justify that.....
I'll call to confirm

afrothunder
07-11-2004, 01:23 AM
i would just do a track school.
through CLASS or the STAR school.
those are actual schools, so i think you'll get better instruction.

Philo
07-11-2004, 02:35 AM
It's $335 for one day. It lays it out in detail on their website. Keith Code's cornering school is about $20 more, if you ride your own bike. It honestly looked like a well run school, but my money will go towards another school. If I had the money, I would have done it, though. I have much to learn.

Fontana was my first track day, and I just lied and told them I'd ridden on a track before, so I could avoid the $100 novice school.

speedster1219

I've only done track at this one place..but the novice school was money well spent. I'll be there on the 7th..I thought about going up to level 2..but I still get spooked when people pass me on the straights...part of riding the sv on that track..

I'll bring the digital. It's not super-duper though (2x optical, 3x digital zoom). If you bring advantix film (I will try), then I'll bring my other camera. Don't worry about developing it because I think I can get it done free.

WE MUST PIT NEAR THE RESTROOMS.

OK..here is my review...of this trackday experience...

1)Fasttrack can eat $h!t...I think they handled their scheduling mixup in "OK" fashion, but there is not much they can do...25 buck refund...should of been more...:(

2)CRASHES..man o man.. ..there was on serious accident that Millan can describe better cause I was about 3 seconds too late to see it occur..:( Lost got nailed by some retard:evil: pitting out of the session...Hope your head feels better mang:D ..I almost crashed as with another SCS member when a motard guy:red: decides to break the rules and pass on the inside..(well we both had to check up on a small chicane)

3) The infield was just as fun..more technical..I was just eager to do some banking....I was able to run a 1:13...I have proof and Millan can verify....

4) Millan..you my wingman...anyday everyday....you take turns 6-8 so smooth...what did sean say "a smooth rider for a smooth bike"...i was in awe of you through the day...just had to pass you those times...i was tired of looking at you @$$...but maybe like you said..you can be a little more agressive in passing and we can fly through the whole way....
5) Aaron (Lost)..wish I could try and follow you in level III but one day Ill get there..sorry to have the idiot nail you..but if you need help let us know..maybe we should of hit up streets instead...and remember you fool  bike prepping should occur before you get to the track...
6)Knightshade..man the time i went to go take pics of you guys..i cruise by your pit and you are all passed out... ..maybe next time....
7Ralph Wiggum thanks for the good food..it was delicious..Ill make sure Joseph comes next time so you can scare him with your "auntie" qualities...

I should have some video soon Orpheus from SOCalSV has some footage of us going at it...and him stuffing me into turn one..( he thought I was mad..I was dam that was smooth)

A HUGE thanks to Carlos and Millan! Thanks for helping me out getting the bike preped! Next time i will change the break pads, put on a new chain, and mount the tires BEFORE the track day. I'll try to post up a video tommorrow of me getting nail. I hurt all over right now and i have to work tommorrow so im gunna crash. (pardon the pun!)

Thanks also to Mike R6Pilot who stayed with me after the incident. He's a great guy. Made sure i got checked out by the medics as well as following me home to make sure i got home in one piece. I think that was my last Fasttrack day. Really put off by all that happened..

Thanks again to everyone!

So here we go...

It sucked at first that the AMA course was taken out. The first session was horrible and not fun at all. After some rest and discussion with Lost and Speedster, the 2nd session was GREAT!!! Very technical track. Each turn must be taken to set you up for the next.

OKAY... "The story"

Turn #6 & 7 are these double rights that can be taken with the right line by a single, smooth swoop. A small straight follows before a sharp left-handed chicane. I come out of the "smooth swoop" and set up on the right for the chicane. It was not even time to brake when this Honda 954 locks up the front and then FLIPS END OVER END, END OVER END SOME MORE, TOP OVER BOTTOM, SOME FLIPS AND THEN SPINNING!!!

mill916
08-08-2004, 01:08 AM
The guy right next to me (we'll call him "lefty") and I grab a handful of brake!! Lefty is trying to avoid running over the rolling 954 rider and I'm trying to avoid his bike that's break dancing in front of me. Lefty starts pushing me to the right and I have no where else to go but in the infield grass!!

mill916
08-08-2004, 01:13 AM
Does the Pasta Sex Machine make it?!

HELL YEAH. The Pasta's plastics are allergic to grass, dirt and the ground. I somehow get the bike to make it through the dirt/grass and come to a stop at the nearest pavement. I look back and some other rider is standing over 954, trying to signal for help to come NOW!!

I get some of the jitters out and decide that I should've just ate lunch. I return to the pits.

Some sessions later with Carlos, dicing it up with some fools that were out there, we both decide to end the day early when we find out that the rider of the 954 was okay at first when he checked in with the track doctor. They took him to the hospital anyways for good measure and then he passed away.

:( :(

MAY HE REST IN PEACE...

Carlos and I end the day early that afternoon while we were still ahead.:errf:

curses to that naked Kawi!!

He brakes hard for the turns and blocks your way to pass. Then when you get a good drive coming out of the apex, he gases it and pulls on you on the straight. We had to stuff him on the inside.

Millan knows the guy...

At least your on a gix, try being on an SV. The same thing was happening to us (Knightshade, myself and Nitro_SV). People can't ride, but they sure can go fast in a straight line:squid: We all had better exit speed too......Long straights are not friendly with the SV :-p

I almost highsided..as Jason (Orpheos) told me. Coming out of turn 12, I think it was, exiting a quick right, left chicane right onto that back long straight trying to get around some retard that wouldn't let me pass (Level 1...passing in straights only on the SV sucks...)so I decided to get on the gas a little earlier and gave it too much. Ass went out to the right, caught, front goes up in the air turning some direction that I don't remember and comes back down with a little wiggle. When it sorted itself back out, I look behind me and nobody is in close vicinity, so I just let off, look at the clock, only two minutes left in the session. Screw it..I'm pitting.

Next session was the best ride of the afternoon as I'm scraping puck more than ever before and setting up corners good enough to pass the inline hokies in the straights..:D

Always good to meet and greet some more hypercycles peeps, I'm sure to meet more if I ever get out to Willow w/all you trackday fools.

I talked a little bit w/the guy that was pitting w/the 954 guy and he said he saw him up and around and figured he was okay too, sad, sad. RIP fellow rider.

Just so you guys know: it's hard to tell when someone is behind me. I used to be easy on the throttle at exits, but it kind of defeats the purpose of going to a track day -- and I am working on corner apex'ing and exit speed as well. Just show me a wheel and I'll be sure to make room for ya, or not be so heavy on the throttle in the straights. I take Reg Pridmore's lines usually: start from middle to outside middle, work my way to the inside, keep it tight and as much to the inside as possible on exit: this leaves plenty of room for faster riders to pass on the outside.

I wasn't at this track day, but I just wanted people to know that so they can set me up and safely pass me (yellow helmet, yellow markings on leathers -- I'm hard to miss).

And if you have any further tips or suggestions, just come talk to me in a constructive manner (as opposed to a critical attitude) and I will be happy to listen and understand and most probably oblige (or let you know why I do what I do).

<-- fast in the straights, and working on the corners.

Why can't more people be as courteous as you. :D Oh well, I guess that's life.
