hyperpro here... I don't know if it works wonders or anything... it's just a confidence thang I reckon...

seen Shaggy's slapper vid? He had his cranked all the way up and was still going lock to lock x4... he just had the presence of mind and stayed loose enough in the arms to not get tossed.

Me, too!

I hate where my Ohlins is mounted because everytime I need to take off my tank, I need to take off the steering stem nut. I am looking to buy the mounting which connects to the front fairing stay and a fork tube.

I have an ohlins on my gixxer where the stock one used to be...I like it there cause its not that noticeable and it has worked very well, great adjustability and damping.

I like the scotts set up personally, I hear very good things from them as well....

I know that jared, shaggy, and stroble have the hyperpros and I think they work well, however jared had a prob with the oil leaking...

GPR has worked well for my friend with a kawi 6RR

I have an article on about 20 different stabilizers if you wanna check it out.

I would however recommend asking BODMASTER...he is the man to talk to

I have had a Scott's on my bike for about two weeks.... it is way trippy having one on there now. Totally changes the handling.

Basically I got one because I am diong this big track day and my jaw hit the floor on shaggy's vid where he went lock to lock. I got the Scott's after talking with Jared (who I think is also rocking the Scott's at the moment.) So far so good.

I thought the damper is not supposed to affect normal handling at all. According to the instructions, you're supposed to adjust the damper so that you can't feel it when steering the bike. It "kicks in" during situations like Jared's.

scotts is manufactured by ohlins. if you buy a scotts damper anywhere else buy the US, it will have ohlins stamped on it instead. rotary style dampers dont get in the way and arent as bulky as the gas charged ones. ive seen a few for an f4i for about 250-300 on honda-tech.com All the scotts dampers are the same, its the mounting kit thats different. so if you find a scotts for cheaper than 250 grab it. mounting kits are usually 100 alone.

I really like the adjustability on the aftermarket ones...I honestly think that the stock one is kinda junky...

there is a benefit if you are really pushing it, otherwise I think that your money can be spent elsewhere...gixxers are pretty stable and aren't know to be too figgity(sp?)

Well I guess I have it cranked higher than I should just to play with it really.... It seems that I maintain a line more with it... butw then again this could be my imagination... one of those mind over matter things

I just got a GPR stabilizer from the guys at BUYMOTO, great price by the way! I love the GPR, it really takes out the twitchiness out of my R1's front end, it really smooths things out, turning is much easier and stable. I chose GPR because they are local San Diego businness and they offer the units in different colors, scott's only comes in anodized gold, i think.

Bryant...what are your thoughts on the Ohlins damper? I have not seen a rotary style application for my Duck yet, but I seriously would like to use one. The stock one on my gixxer seemed to keep the bike more stable while going through the turns (held a better line). Now, my Dark Duck doesn't have one and it just feels a little bit on the twitchy side.

Hi Rich,

I like my Ohlins damper quite a bit actually. I've been using this same damper straight out of the box for about 4 years now and I've never had to rebuild it. Still works great and have had no mechanical problems with the unit. There have been those occasions where I've felt that this damper has saved me from certain doom of the high-side variety at high speeds. It's got plenty of adjustability for my tastes as well. I typically have my damper set on the lowest amount of dampening I can get away with.. I like to feel what my bike is doing more than having my damper mask all of my sense of traction. Even at a looser setting than most, it does a tremendous job at dampening the effects of a violent tank slapper while providing low speed maneuverability and high speed "flickability."

The only thing I didn't like about this unit on my particular R6 was that the top-mount version of this damper for my bike is not as low profile as say the GPR or Scotts dampers. So when I tuck in on my bike.. this damper can occasionally get in the way. They have since improved their damper mount kit designs though from what I have seen and have corrected this issue. I've never seen an issue with Ohlins and Ducs however... seems like they make sure to design the mounting kits for Ducs quite thoughtfully.

The Scotts damper and Ohlins dampers work very well from my experience. There was a time when the Factory Yamaha team used Scotts dampers on all their bikes. I think they still may use this damper although I'm not quite certain. GPR has received some really good reviews as well... but just doesn't have that "name" quite yet. GPR does have a local factory in San Diego and can service the GPR dampers as well for rebuilds, etc.

The only dampers i think there have been some annoying issues with were Hyperpro dampers. Common issue was oil leaking out of the unit and air-bubble issues reducing the effectiveness of the damper.

Thanks Bryant! Very informative indeed. I would like to add that I would prefer to use a rotary style damper because of their low profile; that plus they look cool. However, I read someone in a Ducati forum had to replace their triple clamps in order to be able to mount this type of damper on their 748, which I think shares a similar design with my 749. As a result, this disabled the ability to lock the bars which the person was okay with but to me sounds like too much of a compromise. Going on both Scott's and GPR's website currently do not show an application probably because of this. I'll probably go with the top-mount Ohlins then because I do feel the same as you do about them, albeit I'm sure I never attained the speeds you have. Just waiting on Jae for a callback to the wifey. Thanks bro.

I used to have the scotts rotary dampner on my 00 R1, it worked GREAT, I loved it, but they dont offer a rotary dampner for my 04 R1 and the stock dampner is fine for normal street riding, but if you are more aggresive or do tracks it has a lot of short comings. I went with the Ohlins, it was just a drop in replacement which is nice, and hidden out of the way, plus it has plenty of adjustment from very light to very stiff... So far Iam pretty happy with the Ohlins..
