View Full Version : Food for thought about our trackday...

just thinking about trackday and got excited...was talking to Bill and Mike and we got on the conversation about how nice fontana was and how cool (weather wise) it was and how we could have never had gotten through that many sessions if it was as hot as its gonna be in Willow Springs in a few.
I also started thinking about all the sh!t talking that um I (we) do and got a little worried about crashes. My first trackday was at buttonwillow just over a year ago and there were 9 crashes that day with a bike that caught on fire to boot. It was a fairly significant Hypercycles group that went out and there was a lot of commeraderie as well as competition. With the sport group being so heavily packed with Hypercyclers and people you do or may not know well I just wanted everyone to know that having a buddy go down on the track sucks. Going down yourself sucks even worse, I know....
Fontana was the first trackday where I didnt have anyone in our group crash and it made the whole day better.
We are all out there to have a good time and Im pretty sure that I can make the assumption that no one views crashing as a good time...
I figure with everyone knowing everyone, some people may try to take this opportunituy to prove that they may be faster than the next guy. I know that I didn't want to be the slowest guy out there, but then again I also never WANT to be the guy to crash, although it has been known to happen to me.
Just wanted to express my concerns and enthusiasm about this next trackday coming up...Im stoked and hope that we can all have a good time out there and learn a thing or two, that is after all why its fun to do trackdays...

Very good point indeed Sean! Heat exhaustion also played a part in majority of the crashes. But by what Sean already mentioned, we're all going to the track to have fun and if you crash, you're not having fun. So if you feel you're going way ahead of yourself, roll off, tone it down a little bit, maybe even pit and take a breather. Also since it's going to be really hot, drink lot of water or gatorade. Keep youself hydrated. 100 degree temps teamed up with a full grain leather suit can lead to some unseen consequences.
I for a fact am bringing as much water and gatorade my cooler can hold!

yeah, the heat really took a toll on everyone and when you get hot and fatigued out there I have found my self zoning out or doing non-characteristic things. I also had sweat drip into my eyes and really impair my sight during a lap, so make sure your head is in the game and in the right mindset.
I honestly think it'll be a miracle if we can not have a single person from our group not crash.

yeah i know i always get worked up and wana prove something, but i relise that just because you are in a safer environment dosent mean that you can push it to the limits.
i want eveyone to have fun, and take it at your own pace, hell passing me on my new 1000rr should be fun enough for you guys that you wont have to puch it too hard.
so good point sean, i know we all want to be faster than the next, but lets keep it as safe and crash free as possible

well put Sean, we all need to keep it cool out there because not only will the heat effect our bikes and tires a lot, but you'll get very tired very quickly. The best advice is if you feel tired at all get off the track before you make a mistake. better to get cooled off and rest a little for the next session than try to get all your moneys worth. Unfortunatly with all these people going someone is inevitably going to have an accident, as bad as that sounds it's the truth, but the better prepared you are the less likely it will be you...

all points are good and very well mentioned....
trash talking ...yeah sean u know about that:-p ...
but what it is about the trash-talking is that we who do it have ridden together and know each other..Arnold and I trash talk to each other but we have had track days together and have ridden together..we know each others limits.......
Yes Buttonwillow was HOT :red: but we had plenty of fluids for everyone.....And I believe not everyone did all sessions....so if you dont feel like going out..dont...take it easy and ride within yur limits...stay hydrated and keep the trash talkin to suzuki's vs yamaha's..only cause we know the truth... ..
SERIOUSLY...make sure that everyone brings plenty of water/gatorade...shade...sunscreen.....Share the wealth, the knowledge and the track.......

Well said Sean.
I don't plan on crashing unless somebody rams into the back of my slow-ass. :errf:

I think another thing to remember is that when you crash, you risk the possibility of taking out another rider and ruining his/her trackday or worse.
