View Full Version : Traffic Light Problems

Anyone have the problem of not being "recognized" at traffic lights? Especially at night when there are no cars to turn the lights green for ya. I figure its either being to small to be recognized by the cameras, or not enough metal to be detected by the metal detectors in the ground.

Yeah this happens because there is not enough metal on the bike to be picked up by the sensors in the street. I usually square off over thre sensor and rev my engine a bit an dthat tends to work well for me. They do make little magnet things you can put in the bottom of your plastics to help rememdy this.

I sometimes just run it. This is totally legal because the signal at this point is malfunctioning.

Try putting your kickstand down. That's worked for me on occasion.

what about hitting the starter button? I've done it a couple times and it seems to work... :errf:

Anything that you can do to create a disturbance in the magnetic field generated by the loop in the ground will probably work. Some people purchase magnets at Radio Shack and tape it to the bottom of their fairings.

Or rip them out of old hard drives you never plan on using.

Ill put my kickstand down and rev the bike a little. If that doesnt work try turning it off then starting it again. If that doesnt work, look both ways and put it in gear, but you didnt hear that from me hehe.

This has been issued before in the original Hypercycles thread, but if the light doesn't recognize you and it cycles through can't you run the light as long as it's safe.

yea...fwiw... I remember asking my msf instructor and he said if you don't get the green arrow after two cycles, you can go. But that was back in '88, so my recollection may not be too good... and they may have changed the policy since then...

I've ran over to the crosswalk button too... but now-a-days, I'm too lazy. Just go when it's safe :)

I just went through the class back in October and they said that after the light changes two times you can run it legally, the problem is when your setting on a side street and the light never changes at all, then it would come down to how long do you wait, but of course if there's no cars to be seen, I would just run it.

Supposedly if it skips you 2 times, i think, you treat it as a malfunctioning light and can run it. Best bet if you get pulled over for it just to explain it calmly and Im sure you'll get let off.

like the light from Highland Valley onto the 67! It's the second longest light in the county:mad: I think that qualifies as "non-functioning";)

I wouldn't trust this. I would not give the police any extra incentive to pull you over and give you a ticket.

True, any way to avoid a ticket I would. I think I would just go straight bust a U-turn then make the proper right hander.

Of course you can get this, but it is probably just a magnet.

Hehe, I found this on that greenlight website also. For you hardcore riders who have problems with visibility when it is raining or something.

it's a little mini windshield wiper that you put on your finger to whipe the rain off your helmet, would think some rain x would be much better though

TreAdidas

It is basically a windshield wiper that sraps on to your finger... a squigee if you will.... I guess you socal boys aren't that familiar with what your windshield wipers actually look like

I'm surprised noone has came up with a mini-motorized unit that you could stick to your visor/helmet.

Oh ok, now it makes sense! It hardly ever rains here in S.D, so that wouldn't a wise investment!

naw, you won't get a ticket for doing that. I asked this very same question to the cop I bought my ninja 600 off of about 4 to 5 years ago and he said that if the light cycles a couple of times to treat it as a stop sign. Good enough for me.
