Motorcycle Engine Repair Courses

Has anyone taken either AT 148 (Small Motorcycle Engine Repair) or AT 149 (Large Motorcycle Engine Repair) at Southwestern Community College? I'd like to learn how to do more routine maintenance and repairs on my bikes, so I'm curious how much background/experience would be needed to join either of these courses (e.g., prerequisites), and if they are useful in that regard. Also, I think these are offered for free to San Diego county residents; can anyone confirm or deny this?
