I guess we need a new thread where we can post relevant and not so relevant information regarding the trackday this Friday!

Don't make go a callin' for GPTECHMAN. You wouldn't like it when he's angry.

Considering the newest weather report is that it will be mostly sunny with highs in the low 50s, what is everyone going to where underneath their leathers to keep warm.

Having done SOW last January, I remember it being cold, but manageable. I was going to wear my regular long sleeve and shorts under, but is that enough?

I will be wearing thermals, a pair of slacks, and a sweatshirt underneath my Aerostich Roadcrafter suit. I might wear a ski-mask underneath my helmet, as well.

alright kids....having braved snow and sub freezing temps on my stupid trip to the Bay area

I suggest two things...the long johns and underwear that D-blow stated, but I would also put something over your leathers to cut the wind. I found all the stretch kevlar points on my suit where the coldest and most distracting. I also had glove liners, but the sucky part is that I think that they did stretch out my gloves a tiny bit. Does anyone have a generator that we can bring?

Im just thinking of something that will be able to keep up warm once we are off the track?

Thermals is a good idea. How does Underarmor work in the cold?

GPTECHMAN
12-10-2003, 08:38 AM
there are two kinds of under armor that I know of...one is a midweight that will probably keep you a little warmer...check those out... they are a little heavier in thinkness...;)

For you guys that are running watter wetter, are you planning to leave it in your radiators over nite, or are you going to fill it up in the morning. I'm a little bit concerned about that stuff freezing.

From TrackDaz.com: "Safety wiring recommended, but not required. Oil filter MUST be wired to frame." So is anybody bringing the stuff? I will try to get this done before the track day... but just in case.

Make sure you kids have those hose clamps for your filters if it does not have that drilled bolt (like the K&N filters do)!!!! I doubt people will have those... maybe a stop to home depot would be in order!

There are 4 Wal-marts in the Antelope Valley... I'm not sure, but I recall at least one of them open 24/7. The one in Palmdale near the freeway is located about 1/4 mile east on the Avenue P exit (you will pass Krispy Kreme) on the south side (right) of Avenue P. The one in Lancaster is just north of the outlets on Lancaster Blvd. in the shopping center that contains Costco, a movie theater, Circuit City and things of the like. I believe the exit is Avenue J, head west, then head north into the shopping center (you will see an El Pollo Loco, turn right at the light just after it). But I could be wrong and there is no Avenue J exit... you might have to take 20th st. west exit, head north, then head west on Avenue J, then follow directions above...

For those staying overnight, there is a Ralph's 1/2 mile west of the exit for the track, but I do not know their hours. For gasoline, Chevron is 1/4 mile east on the exit... and I'm pretty sure there are other gas stations around.

Home Depot's (I would call ahead for hours):
The one in Palmdale is in the same business center as the Wal-Mart I talked about above:
340 West Avenue P
Palmdale, CA 93551
(661)266-9600

Lancaster (exit 20th St. West from the 14 and head north (make a right) -- it will be on the east side (right)).
44226 20th St West
Lancaster, CA 93534
(661)951-3669

Sorry, I do not know about motorcycle shops in the area.

Aside from the afore mentioned tapes, I am bringing a spare set of gloves for Sean to try on, 2 pairs of EBC Double-H Sintered pads, a spare pair of ear plugs, lip balm, and a camera.

Hey guys... since it is raining right now and will lkely be pretty wet during the trip up to Lancaster... I would recommend that you put a tennis ball/racquet ball or some other thing to plug up the exhaust canister to prevent a ton of water from getting into your system... also block off any ram-air intakes as well... it's gonna be pretty cold too and would suck to have all that water freeze inside your system... oiye.

Hey Bryant, where can you orange exhaust plugs at?

Good idea Bodmaster. Instead of a tennis ball though, I just wrapped a piece of plastic over the exhaust pipe outlet and secured it with a rubber band.

Here is my account. Well worth the numbing ride there to the freezing cold high desert. I learned quite a bit. What I need to work on, though, is accelerating through a turn. Sorry, I am not one for writing up a good account... I will leave that to others. Enjoy my pictures, will ya?
