I'm not sure if anyone has listed this yet but here goes...

This is a petition to stop CalTrans from removing "Motorcycles OK" signs in HOV lanes (carpool). All you need to do is click on the "sign petition" button.

I know there isn't a lot of carpool lanes in SD but this will help all of the drivers in the state know that it is LEGAL for us to be in that lane. I know Dre and I use these lanes quite a bit when commuting and I have gotten "the look" or finger on more than one occasion. So please get in there and sign the petition.

Thanks,
Alfredo

Me too, think I was # 1449 or something, dont understand why they would remove the motorcycles ok from the signs, are they thinking about not making it legal? One thing we learned in the class is that it's legal to lane share if the traffic is going under 45 miles and hour and if it's inbetween the far two lanes of traffic.

Major discussion of this on other forums and e-mail lists. One possibility is that it is cheaper to simply remove the signs, rather than clean/replace them. It's not like LA drivers read signs. For example, "Slower Traffic Keep Right." Just assume that 95% of drivers out there don't see you, and 5% are trying to kill you.

FYI: there is no legal way to lane share. It simply is not illegal. Getting a ticket is discretion of the CHP or LEO pulling you over. For what it's worth, I have had a CHP motorcycle pull up behind me while I was splitting at 65 MPH (traffic was moving at about 55 MPH), moved over, and s/he passed me without taking a breath.

Tried that once and can you imagine this...the driver pulls infront of me and skreches to a halt gets out of his car then decides he wants to get into an altercation with me right there in the middle of the street. Needless to say he jumped back into the car when I got off the bike to listen to what he had to say. I think he suddenly realized that this may not be a very good idea considering I'm wearing a helmet, gloves and an aerostich jacket.

Yeah talk about armour....BUT on the other side of the coin, have you ever tried to fight in all that gear? Believe when I say that it is not fun

I'd hate for the situation to get to that point but if it did I can just imagine it'd be hard to swing with all that gear on. Kind of like those "sumo suits" that people put on during parties.

geez, do we have sooooo much money in california, cuz we're not in a financial crisis or anything, that we have to spend money to take 'motorcycles ok' off every carpool sign because that would do soooooooooo much good.
