This weekend started out not exactly the way I wanted it too. I went out there, and just couldn't get comfortable on the bike in practice. The thing was moving around, I was holding on way too tight, and just trying too hard for slow laptimes. In one session, I was riding with my partner rudy and headed down the front straight. I glanced down at my timer, and looked up.. I saw the starter waving a flag on the left, and a dude stopped on the track on the right.. This REALLY freaked me out so I just decided to park the bike and chill for a little while. In that session, my partner unfortunately sampled the WSIR soil and ended his day early. I however, chilled.. took a nap, and was ready for the GTU race. As soon as the flag dropped it was ON. I got a REALLY good start and was 3rd into turn 1. a couple of people passed me, but I think I was solid in 5th or 6th. Anyway.. The race was pretty uneventful, but still loads of fun.. I rolled into the pits and learned why my start was so good. Turns out I had gotten caught jumping the start. After trying to argue that I hadn't jumped, I just cracked a few beers and considered the day done.
Saturday night I probably drank a little more than a dehydrated person should, and went to bed a little early. Woke up Sunday morning with a "Slight" hangover and was ready to race.
My first and only practice session I went out and was just as comfortable on the bike as the day before (the GTU race). I was having loads of fun and was ready. First race up was 650 superbike. I was gridded in like 13th position. Green flag drops and we were off like mad men. I had a really good race long battle with 3 other riders. Stan Bates, Branden Davies, and Mark Allan. We were giving eachother hell out there.. It was great fun. I'd pass all three of them in 3 only to be repassed down the front straight. it was awesome the battle we had. I can remember passing one guy in turn 9 all gnarly on the outside, and really close.. Good times.. Also later in the race I passed a dude on the outside of two, and touched my knee on his bodywork (WTF???) anyway.. I believe I finished 11th in that race, and I had a blast doing it.
Next race up was 600ModProd. Green flag dropped and I got a decend start. I worked my way passed a few slower dudes, and was racing with pretty much the usual suspects from the previous race. I got around 2 of those guys, and was reeling in Stan Bates when the red flag was shown and we had to stop. Turns out I was up to 7th, and got rolled back to the lap before ending up 9th.
My last race of the day was Formula 2 GP. WOW what a fun race that was. I got past a couple of guys, and was pretty much by myself for a while. Then suddenly after a few laps I was reeling in a guy that had passed me earlier. I attempted to pass him in 9, and actually made the pass, but he got back by me before turn 1.. He then stretched out a little gap on me. I didn't give up though and I tried and tried to catch back up with him. I was out braking him into 1 and 3 big time, and I was staying on the gas way longer than he was in the 8-9 area. at the white flag he had about 3 bike lengths on me.. By turn 3 I was right on him.. I folllowed him over the hill and was drafting him down the back straight.. We both turned into 8 WFO and I was right on his A$$ . He turned in just a hair early, allowing me to slide right by on the gas on the outside.. I got a good drive outta 9 and was able to hold him off at the finish. I'm not sure what the finishing position was.. but I was happy. I had beat him.. turns out, he was the guy who last month nearly killed me exiting the track.
This weekend was a complete blast. I had some of the best fun racing I've ever had.
Couple more things.. My boy Jacob West was kicking A$$ too.. Dude won 750 Superstock, I think he got 2nd place in GTO and 750 Superbike.. and he got 3rd in the Formula 1 race.. Good Job Brotha!
A few wise-asses decided to tattoo up my truck, trailer and bike with "The SHOCKER" stuff. I was hoping that would go away, but its just getting worse.. Bastards
