All this talk about leather jackets got me thinking that I should probably get some protective gear for my legs as well...
Ladies (or guys), do you have any suggestions for riding/touring pants? Leather or textile? I'm mostly looking for something that would offer pretty good protection should I ever go down (knock on wood that I don't) and also something that'll keep my legs warm during the colder months. Another possibility could be something that I could wear over a pair of jeans.

I've been thinking the same thing and am considering the following

Icon Field Armour leg
Bohn Adventur pants/shorts

I tried on the Icon leg armour and I would feel hella safer w/those on for my calves, knees, and shins

I would still like to see the Bohn stuff because I think that would add an extra layer of protection for my thighs and butt-butt from road rash...

Well let's see... when I crashed my shins cracked the sign post that I plowed over... and well whenever it rains I can feel that some sort of bruise is there.... It will probably bring me much dismay, when I'm old and gray, but luckily such day, is far, far away. Those are nice but I dunno about necessary... Regarding the above spandex/arom combo, I would be more concerned with a back/spine protector before any type of extra armor combo... personal opinion there.... my ideal setup is the following....

1. A one-piece leather suit for canyons and trackdays.... gloves, boots, back protector and a set of under armor (which I got for my birthday :woot: )

2. A leather jacket to be worn in conjunctoin with the gloves above to the likes of bike night and putting around town on beach cruises, or down to cabrillo's monument or whatever..

3. Aerostitch suit. I want this for commuting to work. I plan on riding my bike as much as mother nature deems possible and luckily she looks favorably upon southern california so this will be nice to throw over my business casual gear.

I have seen that stuff from Bohn and I dunno I just don't see it really making that big of a difference.

Make sure your gear is leather... you don't want to be mesh guy part II... trust me I am total  on that one.... again thank you Mr. Stoble for saving my soul and my skin there.

I bought frank thomas (touring gear brand). They velcro up the outside of each leg, so it's totally easy to get in and out. They're waterproof. They were about 200 at cyclegear. I like them a lot, they're not extraordinarily pretty but they're good for the cold and easy access.

Damn Chuck you're smoking that bike like it was parked!!! :-p

Those Bohn pants suck. Mine do anyway. The armor moves all over the place and it's hard to get it to stay still where you want it. I wear it under my dirtbike pants and I'm constantly adjusting it. Plus you're wearing spandex and that sucks plenty on it's own.

+1 to chuck on the back protector. Once I crashed on asphalt (no details :squid: ) and my jacket rode up and I slid on the back protector. So no backpain or rash on my back. BONUS!!!

Like Chuck said go with leather. I commute in mesh, but ride in leather. Talk to those lovely gents at Buymoto and they can lay it all out for you and help you find your best option for el-cheapo.
