Good luck and have fun! Don't pull any stoppies in front of the instructors, I hear they don't condone that kind of thing.

Definitely have fun. Are they still supplying the Rebel 125's or do you have to use your own??

Last time I took the class they had 'em. I took the MSF course at Palomar College and MotoPro of Oceanside supplied them with brand new ones.
can I use my 250, or is that big / should I just use theirs?

I had my 250 when I did the class but just ended up using there's. It's way easier because they're smaller and you dont have to worry about laying it down or anything but they are kind of crappy, only a few new ones and they're all cruisers. I took mine in for the 2nd class but the guy said that they had to do a full inspection of it and sort of blew me off.

I say you should use there's. The smaller the bike the easier. Plus if you're paying full price for the corse, it's better to get your money's worth.

I'll spread the word also, how much is it?

I spent roughly $225. I think??? It was because i was over 21yrs old, or something like that. It's crazy, you'd think they would charge more for the younger people who have less experience time on the road. I dunno...Oh well. Well worth it....

I just realised I am going back up north that weekend, so I will be changing my time. I'll give em a call tomorrow and see what times are open / prices and post em up here.

Yeah the class is pretty expensive, I'm thinking I paid about $220 as well, It's cheaper for those under 18 cause they are required to take it.

$220? Did they raise the price? When I took it, it was only $180!

Yeah it actually took me a few months to take the class cause I was trying to get into a free class on base but kept getting bumped for active duty, but anyway everytime I called I think the price went up a little bit. They also filled up pretty fast so once I called it was another month and a half before I could get into the class and had to pay for it up front in order to reserve my spot.

Do you have to be active to take the class on base?

I took it while I was working on Miramar... so it was free. And I got to wear a nifty orange mesh vesh everytime I went on the base. I wonder if they still make everyone do that?

no, you just have to work there.
...but I imagine Active duty would get priority...

No, if your a dependent, reservist, or dod employee you can take it as well, but it's first come first serve and of course any active duty that wants to take it can bump you. Signed up twice and got bumped twice, the 2nd time I actually took off work and showed up at the class, would have been nice if they could have given me a call before then. They do it during the day, 2 days in a row instead of the 2 evenings and 2 saturdays.
You can actually wear either an orange vest or a reflective jacket, my green kawasaki jacket is good enough and your required to wear boots and gloves as well.

I think they are gov owned but independantly operated! Kind of like Traffic Schools.

Yeah, that's true. That's why you can get a discount on your insurance if you show them your MSF Card or Pink slip. Good Stuff.

Yeah, it's (or rather was when I took it) $75 since it's the only way someone under 21 can get a motorcycle license. Although I can see the obvious outcry at the over 21 age price, I don't think it's all that reasonable to force someone to pay $220 when they don't have any other option of obtaining a motorcycle license when those over 21 can simply roll over the DMV and pay much less if that. Also, if younger kids are so much more wreckless on the road (you could debate this endlessly), shouldn't a cheaper price be an incentive for them/us to get an M class license the best way possible, through the MSF course?
they don't like it too much when you wheelie out of the corners:rolleyes:

I heard from Mike D that AAA doesn't honor a discount for it....

I know that Geico does, just have to fax them your certificate and I think it's a 10% discount.

I pretty sure that they don't. Dre looked into it a couple of weeks ago for me and told me that they (AAA) wouldn't help out/discount.
