What do you all think of the S-MX PLUS from Alpinstar? Are they worth the 250$ plus the 10% discount i got from the Saturday's sale at cyclegear. I'm supposed to pick them up tomorrow but was wondering if there worth the money.

I like em. One of the more popular boots. That and the sidi vert2's. They're $234 at kneedraggers. http://www.kneedraggers.com/index.php?partno=34-A512&s=1

those are the boots I own. love 'em! and with your 10% discount, worth the money. I paid 250 plus tax for mine when i bought em.
and yes I could have found them cheaper online, but i prefer to buy them at a local shop, infact i prefer to buy everything at local stores.
i got mine brand new off ebay for 125$ plus shipping. you can get pretty good deals on closeout if you look.

They are great boots. I have the RED ones and am very happy with them. As mentioned, look around and you can find some deals on them.

One issue I had with the SM-X Plus is that the metal inserts on the heel can rub against parts on the swingarm. Plus they get loose every so often so you have to tighten them periodically.

I don't know if you mean sweat or squeak? I'll assume squeak :-p. Yep, they do squeak but I think all you have to do is spray a little WD-40 and it will fix that.

LOL! There I go again, trying to make up my own words! Yeah I meant SQUEAK! So that's what you do, WD-40! On the side plates that make contact right?

I just spray where there is a joint, anyplace that can make noise.

Just make sure you wipe off the excess after several hours, otherwise it will get everywhere.

I've had trouble with the zippers on these. I wear mine everyday so mine may get more wear than most. The problem is the path the zipper takes from your toes towards your ankles. Along the way to zipping up there are too many creases in the boots that the zipper has to pull together. I've had to have the zipper heads replaced twice already. A better design would have the zipper shoot straight up from your sole to your ankle like the SMX boot. Had I known this I would of gone with another style or brand.

First off, welcome aboard! I have never had this problem and I have had mine well over a year. I guess it depends on the size of you calves.

Yeah Welcome! I do notice that too while zipping them up. They were easy to zip up at first, but when you break them in, and creases start to form, it becomes harder to zip up. Have you tried cuffing the boot closer when zipping it up? Makes somewhat easier.

I tried on the Sidis before I got the SMX-Plus, and the SMX-Plus just was a better fit.

IMO, the Sidi's don't feel as secure and comfortable as the Alpinestars!

One thing that really swayed my decision was that I was never able to find any decent deals on the Race versions.

They have the inner boot and are supposed to be more comfortable than the SMX-Plus.

The Sidi's have velcro at the top to pull the zipper thingies together before you zip them up. The only problem I have had with my boots is the velcro which covers the zipper - the plastic onto which it was stiched broke in half on a stitch.

I think that the alpinestars fit me better. I have a wider foot, and they are probably more comfortable.
Also I find that the calf on my sidis are relatively smaller than my Astars.

I think the Sidi's are a better bang for the buck and I have also had both Sidi and A-stars. Sidi just feel better and lighter to me.

It took 6-7 rides before my SMX-Plus felt more comfortable.

not too long, but just be careful if you have been riding with street shoes, cause you can't really point your toes when putting a foot down.. I almost dropped my bike a couple of times

The more I wear 'em the more, I do notice they're easy to shift in. Was that the same for you Allan? The SMX's are hard to up shift then the Sidi's.

when i first bought my smx plus's i found it very hard to up-shift. it was so bad that I was constantly missing my shifts. but after riding with them for a couple of days, they started to break in and felt much better. now I have put a little over 2000 miles on my boots and man they feel great! nothing like at first. like a second skin. I wore regular shoes the other day to hit up the store and damn they felt all loose and awkward. Im very pleased with my AlpineStars.

It definitely takes awhile, but I think it is worth it because they feel like they provide alot of protection.
