Who do you have insurance through, what is your rate and for what coverage?

We currently have Geico but I was trying to shop around.

21st Century...DO NOT GET THEM!!! STAY AWAY!!!

After 2 accidents in my truck, the last being fatal (poor poor Shaneequah, I shall miss her), I have come to the conclusion that 21st Century bends over and takes it in the ass when they are actually needed. In the accident that killed Shaneequah (my big black truck) my roommate was pulling into my driveway (he was driving) and some guy going the same direction in traffic rear ends him and my roommate is found 50% at fault....there are over 30 feet of skid marks from the stupid mini van that must have been going way faster than the speed limit...

Yea, so dont get 21st century.

I hear good things about AAA and State Farm.

Got AAA on the bike, full coverage-$500

Got Wawanesa on my car full coverage-$500

E-liz, since your b/f is in the military why not go through USAA insurance. I heard they are really cheap and offer excellent customer service.

Who USAA? Yeah a couple of people on this board who are military have coverage through them. I heard they have the best premiums but you have to be military, active, reserve, retired or dependant.

With Geico we have 30/60, PD $5000, 15/30 unisured, Comp/Col $250 and pay $462 for my Ninja and $890 for the GSXR750. Everywhere that I've called or gotten online quotes from today has been outragous, quoting me $3-4000 for the year.

That's weird, because Geico and Progressive was the most expensive EVER! I actually called them and they quoted me like $2800 down  and like $3300/month  I went online to Progressive and they wanted like $5000 down and like $13000 for just my R1. Comedy! Try calling USAA, I guarantee, they'll beat Geico's rate.

I went through AAA. I got discounts for being a AAA member and getting renter's insurance. I have had 2 claims through them, and they have been nothing but professional. I cannot complain about the rates because, although high, they are the lowest I could find. Let me know if you want more specifics on my coverage, but I don't think it would help out your cause any.

I'm with AAA (bike and cars) and pretty happy with the rates. If you've got a clean record you should get a great deal. Like Dre said there is a discount for AAA members as well. You also get all the maps and 6 tows a year with the AAA membership.

Is that the standard membership, or the Gold or Platinum?

One thing to take into account -- AAA does not take discounts for professionals or completing driving/riding classes.

State farm has killer rates. I pay about 40 bucks a month for full coverage on my gixxer 1000.

uh Dean Gordon 760-753-1264. He's in cardiff I think... Trick is to have my car on the plan too. They can only tack on underage driver fees onto one car on the policy, so that's on my car... and bike is cheap :)

am I the only one getting raped?
full coverage here, Progressive $1600.00 a year. most insurance companies would not touch my bike, then the ones that would did not want to give me a decent rate because I had a suspension back in 1999 for six months. (due to too many speeding tickets) since then I have not had a single ticket or accident, but that damn suspension still follows me....:red:

I feel ya! When I had my exhibition of speed, speed contest, a speeding ticket and an accident on my record, Progressive was the only one who would insure my R1. They quoted me unreal #'s!

Nope, you're not alone. Progressive quoted me at $3,000 a year for full coverage (at Laguna Seca a few months ago). 21st Century says I need 3 years endorsement before even trying. State Farm quoted me around $3,500 a year. 2 claims and 1 point (trashing the F4i on the 405) will do that.

Man.. i would have put my car on state farm too but... State Farm woudl have charged me $1600 for my Solara and would not give me a break on the bike insurance!!! So i just insured the bike alone and it's costing me about $650/year for full coverage. I insured my car with Wawanesa full coverage with the lowest deducts at about $1000/year....

I use Pacific Specialty Insurance. There rates are pretty good. I pay 415 bucks a year for Full Coverage. It's a little cheaper for me cuz my bike is considered a Half Fairing bike. What that mean...I dunno....I'm guess'n cuz it isn't as fast as all the other bikes and isn't considered a supersport. Works for me. Oh yeah, and the MSF Course saved me quite a bit of change too.

Their pricing and coverage plans are by far the best I have found so far.

However, there is a fundamental difference between Wawanesa's way of doing business and companies like State Farm or Allstate doing business. Wawanesa is just one big corporate building in each major location filled with agents, receptionists and adjusters who go out to help out wawanesa customers. There is hardly any "personal" interaction between you as the insured and the insurer in this case.

With Allstate, you typically deal with a single agent who usually spends some time to get to know you and pretty much takes care of you whenever you need them for a claim, etc.

When I had to make a claim for the first time after hitting a huge deer that ran in front of my car in Mira Mesa of all places... Wawanesa was a royal pain in the tushies! Their response to my claim was very slow and I had to keep calling them 6 days straight for them to send out an adjuster to check out my car. Finally I got their attention and they assigned an adjuster to me. Not only did this jerk show up 1 hour later than our appointed time, he came with a real bad attitude. The first thing he said was, "You guys always try to rip off insurance companies making claims on things that are really your fault" WTF?!? He didn't even complete the estimate and drove off after 2 hours of wasting time interrogating me on how the accident occured and how such and such a scratch or other damage was not going to be factored into the estimate cuz there was no CONCRETE proof that I even hit a deer... and if i did, there was no proof that hitting the deer caused stress cracks in the bumper etc... This guy was a total *******. I even told the turd that I had a police report that very same night and badge number of the officer who can testify on my behalf that I really did hit a deer. He just shoved his hand in my face and told me it didn't matter.

I still have yet to file complaints on how Wawanesa's claims adjusters handled my very first claim... but man it was so hard just getting my car to a shop to get fixed and paid for by the insurance company and so much time passed in between that I haven't gotten around to it yet...

I'm hoping if there is a next time, that this won't happen again.

Anyway, they did end up paying everything that was required to repair my car back to new condition... even new headlights (which surprised me cuz they were in perfect condition already) so in the end, things worked out. But getting to that point.. was a PITA. I really had to push these people to get their act together and get the claim taken care of properly.

I've heard other folks all had good experiences with them... so mine could just be one of those fluke cases. Wawanesa covers California, Washington and Canada only I believe.

If you get a comparable rate through State Farm, AAA, or Allstate, I'd go with them instead. In my case, the choice was made easy simply because I would be saving $600/year by choosing Wawanesa over State Farm... but if you have to make a claim.. man.. you really need a baseball bat handy!

Wow, thanks for the response. I think customer service is very important, and the way they treated you was uncalled for. Thanks for the heads up.

Yeah, with bigger insurance companies like State Farm or AllState, you are basically paying a premium for some of the best customer service around.

USAA is the bomb! But as Sir Arnold has previously stated, they are only available to the military community. Full coverage on two cars, one bike, house insurance and life insurance to top it all off and I only pay $160 a month. Sorry didn't mean to rub it in  Could that only mean that I am old as heck?

Customer service is great and when I had the bike stolen I had the check within three weeks, no find/cool off period. Of course I had to haggle with them a bit for the settlement but that is the case with all insurance companies.
