Is it a general rule to have your tires changed every 3K miles? Or can you just go by how much thread your tires have left? If so, how much thread before they need to get changed out? Does it also depend on what kind of tires you have?

i guess to be safe i would say its time to look at changing once you hit the tread markers. i tend to ride them a little longer til the tread if pretty low but that is not necesaraly the safest thing. As a general rule i would say once you hit the tread markers start lookin for a new set.

Agree with Pulse. The tire life will vary greatly based tire type and riding style. My first set of BT020 lasted nearly 9K miles.

the bandit tires lasted 9k, the gixxer lasted 4k, its all about riding style. the SV cant be ripping up tires that quick that you need to change them every 3k can it? thats some crazy riding you are doing if they need em replaced that quick.

I only get 300 on Dunlop d208 on my 98 VFR. That was a daily commuter and I also have a lead throttle hand.

Motorcycle tires don't need to be changed until they have the markers showing on them, Just like cars, the markers are some rubber located inside the tread, when that rubber stopper is flush with your tread then start looking for a new set, You usually have alot of miles left when it hits that spot so don't worry about changing it asap if you see that, but realize you are due for a new one.
