He was trying to hit the kid on the bike (kid with the red shirt). So he was holding the car door open as the car passed the bike. But he was a bit too far on the outer edge of the door and when he hit the cyclist the laws of physics kick in and the door pushes back. But since he's so far outside he falls out instead of getting pushed in. Now that's karma for ya...
