Any one know where I can take my bike to get a striped oil plug re-threaded? I guess I need a helicoil done for this, and I must tow it there. This sucks. Thanks!

go get the lp drain plugs, the thread are a little longer. I stripped out my gsxr drain plug and i used a lp one and it works.

I guess that would work. I wonder how much they are...definately less $ than the labor/tow. And I could replace myself...maybe the pipes can stay on?

i stripped the oild drain plug on my r6 and HOM fixed it for free. i believe they used the self taping one and they said i would need a new oil pan, but ive changed my oil a few times since and it has held up w/o leaking.

Thanks for the feedback. I knew when I was tightening it and it started to get looser i F'd up. I still have to take the plug out and assess the damage, but at least i didn't find out when riding. I guess there is a bright side to this.

What ever you decide to do make sure it's done right, You don't want to do a half job with something as important as your oil plug, for your own saftey, not to mention damage to your bike.

happened to me before too....if its just the plug's threads that are stripped, as long as it doesnt have obscure dimensions , you can prob find a generic one at autozone or kragen...or just buy one for your bike (i got a LP one as well for not more than $10 or so i think)
good luck!

I would definitly look into replacing your oil pan. You should be able to pick one off ebay for a reasonable price, if you don't mind waiting a little while. Keep in mind that if a temporary fix fails that 4 liters of oil are going to fall right in front of your rear tire.

Safty es numero uno. Agreed. I never do a half ass repair job, and I'll have to wait a week or two to get it done right. Kragen Auto Parts? I think I'll pass on that one. Thanks for the feedback.

I called HOM and they said the LP plugs have been discontinued. Anyone know about this? The guy said there were problems with them breaking/hitting something since they stuck out more than the stock plug???

Did you try to get a heli coil, that might be your best best unless you replace you oil pan.
