Long story short.....I changed the oil on the R1 this weekend. Everything went great until I decided to give it a good wash. To my horror, I forgot to put my oil fill plug back and got some water in there. I can't believe I was that careless to have that happen. I ran the bike and saw the oil get milky (like Nestle quick). So I shut her down and drained all the crap out of it. Flushed and refilled it with new oil and ran her again. This time, it took longer for the oil to get milky. So I drained out the oil again. My suspicion is that there must be some left over water in the oil pan. So my plan is to drop the oil pan and clean it out. Put fresh oil and filter and run it for a good hour to burn off any excess water left in the system. Drain the oil and put new oil and filter again. Then I will monitor the oil from there.

What do you guys think? Is there anything else I can do or should do? Right now, the bike is sitting with no oil because I want to drain it as much as possible. I can't drop the oil pan yet because the oil pan gasket has to be ordered and won't arrive till this Thursday. What my fear is that if there is enough water in there that didn't drain out or evaporate, will it rust inside of the engine? GOD..if my bike ever gets through this...it will never fricken happen again

Not sure if this is recommended on a bike but try using MOTOR FLUSH. For the oil pan gasket you can try gasket maker and/or silicone..All can be purchase at you local auto store...Good luck bro, I know how you feel that happened to my car before with a blown head...

thanks bro. I spoke to Amsoil because they have some Engine flush products and they don't recommend it. I'll try the gasket maker though just to get the engine flushed and running. Thanks.

Sorry didn't mean to scare ya, it'll be fine.

Yeah you can rust bearings if there's water sitting in there drying. Just keep filling, draining, filling, running, draining a few more times and it will be fine. Just don't leave it dry for the water to rust anything.

I filled my KTM's engine case with water and got the old milkshake. Takes a few times flushing it but it will be fine.

dammit man.. my heart skipped a beat on that other post you made. I'm gonna drop the oil pan tonight, then fill it up with fresh cheap oil in the morning, then go for a smooth ride. Dump it out again then put the soem good oil in it. Thanks for the tip man.

It'll get all up in the valves and heads. Takes awhile for it to get back down and for all of it to get out. Just keep changing out the oil.

You should be good to go after that.

You can also ask over at socalsportbikes.com they've got uber-smart dudes over there.

You certainly don't want to make a habit of taking my advice on bike maintenance or repair, though. I'm kinda hit or miss.

thanks for all the tip guys. Looks like I dodged a huge disaster. I took the oil pan down and cleaned it all out. It was hard to tell but I think the water in the pan was pretty small. I replaced the pan and put fresh oil in it and ran it for a good hour. At first, the site window glass look a little foggy but as soon as I finished the ride, the glass was clear and the oil looked like oil. YES!!! As soon as I get the new gasket on Thursday, I'm gonna put the good oil and filter on it. For now, I'm gonna run the bike the way it is to keep oil circulating and hopefully burn off any water that was left (which I doubt exists now) Anyway, I guess it was a good learning experience as I was able to see what the bottom of the engine looked like. LOL

Again, thanks for all your help.
