Ok, here is my freek accident this morning: I was all packed up and ready to ride to meet a friend in San Luis Obispo then continue riding home to the East Bay. So I gas up and hop on the 5. Between La Jolla Village Dr exit and Genesse I change lanes and sonething didnt feel right. So i kind jerk the bike around to see why it felt weird turning then my rear wheel started to wobble going around 70-80mph. Kinda scary on the freeway. So I pull to the side and smoke is coming from my rear axle and it is clearly broken some where because the right side (nut side) was tight and on the left side, the axle was coming out. So with a combination of slow riding and pushing I got home. I went to take it apart and the left side axle was stuck so I had to dremel the head off and pound the reamining part back into the hub to get the wheel off. The bearings and all spacers were destroyed but the wheel is gonna make it. And I still need to get home and Arnold is letting me borrow a wheel for a week

here is the axle once I got it out. The break on the right is where it snapped. The break on the left is where I dremeled it

I have no idea what caused this. The break is in a totally random place inside the hub. Yamaha will hear about it and hopefully we can figure things out

you are one LUCKY mutha trucka....... i wasted a rear bearing at bw in sept.....

only thing i can think of is that the inner race of that bearing seized and took the axle with it.....
you need to have that wheel checked by a shop.... if the outter race was shaking or bending on ANY of the bearings in that wheel, it's fried.... cause the new bearing won't seat properly

Damn that sucks, glad nothing bad happened. :)
Way to go Arnie for helping out man.

Kinda related, my truck lost brakes getting off the 15S onto the 52. Turns out on the left front the inside bearing grease was non-existent and it seized up causing the entire wheel assembly to flop around on the spindle somehow and oscillate meaning the pads couldn't grab the rotor, the whole wheel assembly right back to the backing plate and spindle had to be replaced. All coz of no grease.
Glad it was my bosses dime and not mine, $1137.05 to get it on the road again. :silenced:
Grease is good.
