Oil on tire?

Whats up you all,

Got a question...My bike had been leaking oil and so I got a bunch of it all over the back tire. The guy at the shop said that after it would be too dangerous to drive because tires are porous and soak up all the oil, even if I leave it out for a long time. Is this true, or is this guy just trying to get some new tires off me?

Here is an old thread in which we pondered that same question. I think general consensus was to clean it with kerosene or something, and it should be fine:

you can use keroscene as it should get the oil oit with out harming the tire,...but ride extra carefully for a while.
