i have an 04 gsxr 600 and i recently crashed it and i need to replace the stator cover.... i was wondering if anyone knew the procedure on it??? i was told that i should clean it out and make sure that no dirt or anything gets into it.... but does anyone ahve a more in depth explanation???

I changed mine, have your bike on stands, if you dont have them, then kickstand is fine. Ideally you should drain the oil, but you dont have to...if you dont then some oil will drain out, but not much. undo the bolts around them, take it off slowly, if you tear the gasket or sealant just put some new stuff on if when you reinstall the new cover. tighten and remember to add some oil to compensate

Just like GPTECH said, and I would recommend just changing your oil at the same time. Might want to get a new gasket also because the old one may tear when you remove it. Be careful with those star bolts inside the case cover that actually keep the stator mounted. They are a pain in the neck if you strip them, and the oil can make it difficult to get good leverage when loosening those bolts.

well i punctured the stator cover.... i do have a bike stand, but im gonna have to do it all the way back where my bike is at my parent's house in the OC.... but i didnt purchase a gasket.... should i get one?? because im gettin the stator cover from someone and i should get it in sd by fri at the latest... and planning on goin home and replacing it sat morning or so....

ooh which reminds me, i should get more oil from buymoto... funny thing is how i did an oil change 2 days prior to my crash.... sux to be me

have a extra gasket just in case... you can't always save the gasket. I'd also get some gasket remover in case the gasket has caked on the engine pretty well... but that usually happens only in older bikes.
