View Full Version : My birthday present. A destroyed bike.

So...go for a ride to the strand, hit the S turn after the Coronado bridge. Tucked into the end of the turn goin about 65 or 70. Nice lean, nice form, good line, bad pothole. Lane one of that turn has two potholes back to back. Hit the first one and got squirrely then hit the second one and the front end lifted off the ground and i low sided in a heartbeat, hit the ground, let go of the bike and slid out. I remember seeing my bike spin, then seeing oncoming traffic, then the bike, then traffic. Then i flipped over slammed my head into the ground then slid some more, then flipped up, managed to land on my feet and back peddle. :ninja: (Im a ninja.) I made sure i wasnt going to get hit by a car, then turned around and walked off the road and started peeling off gear.
Let me just say, the IIcon barrier pants are Cal tested and Cal approved. MotoGP Apex jacket and Held Akira gloves also held up like a champ. I have no roadrash whatsoever, just some bruises and a bit sore. My bike on the other hand, didnt hold up so well. The entire left side is completely trashed and it took out a One Way sign (which i kept as a souvenir). Forks are bent, swingarm is scraped to hell, and something punctured my oil pan. So anyone going to coronado needs to beware of the potholes in lane 1 and the huge oil puddle in lane 3.
Thats my story, ill see you guys in a month or so when insurance makes my bike whole again.
Nice (fudge)in birthday present huh?
Thanks to the riders that were with me that helped out and kept me company. It is appreciated.

Funny how some see a glass half empty while others see it half full. I don't think you can ask for a better b-day present than the fact that you're alive to talk about your accident, bro. I know it sucks that your bike was damaged and all, but considering everything, we're all glad you're okay. THAT really is what counts.

hmmm.....any chance you might want to fix it yourself without going through insurance? let me know if you want any help, or just to see what it would cost out of pocket. I mean your rates will go up, as it was your fault, so you should see if its worth it to add another crashed liter bike to the equation.
Glad you are ok, and take it easy next time on roads you arnt familiar with.
Glad to hear your ok. The bike can be fixed..

I dropped off the bike at a shop and started the insurance process. I pay them enough, they can give some back. Thanks for the sentiments...should be a little over a month before im back on the road. That is...if they dont total the bike. :/ Ill find out next week.
