View Full Version : Title of bike?

What exactly does the title to a bike mean? A clean title means it has not had a claim filed against it with the DMV/insurance company and a salvage title means that it has damages that are costlier than the value of the bike. But what exactly does that mean, or what does it affect? I am currently looking at an R6 with rashed up plastics/case covers and it has a "Previous Damage - Washington" title. Does this affect insurance rates or something? If I buy new plastics and case covers, can I get the title cleared?
Thanks
Edit: The bike has 2500 miles, did I hear something about there being a problem with registering a bike with less than 5000 miles on it or something?

AS far as I know.... the titles affect the cost of insurance on the bike.... dunno what the heck previous damage means.
To register a 49 state bike in CA it needs to show 7,500 miles or more on the ODO

The title is the certificate of ownership. It is what shows proof that you are the legal owner. So if you do decide to sell "it" later on, the buyer can see if the vehicle is clean or salvaged. Depending on what kind of salvage it went through, I'm pretty sure most insurance companies can insure a bike. Here's another post Sean asked about salvages.
