Or an EX250.
i practiced on a ex250, i couldnt have picked a better bike to start on, but if your looking for something in the 600cc range i would also go with a sv650!

600 cc would be a good start for a newbie.. That was my choice....so far so good :) It will all depend on your comfort level.

How about a Busa, that way you can be super fast out of the box! just kidding!!! In my opinion the Honda F4i is a great beginner bike, that's one of my first bikes.

shop around .... sit on different bikes and kinda get a feel of what fits you best. And then make a decision. mine was a ZX6

Definitely an EX250 :) Was my first bike and I still ride it even though I have something bigger. It's a great bike to learn on.

what about like a R6, or GSX600? OR 600RR?

Those are "ok" bikes for beginers. I would suggest going with a older one. Maybe an F4 instead of a 600RR. Chances are very high that you will drop this bike and plastics are VERY expenive. It hurts a little less when the bike is not brand new. Get a older bike or a smaller bike, learn to ride the hell out of it and then move up from there.

cbr f4i is a good bike. it was my first bike and is still my bike. i love it. but i think a 600 is good to start with and i also think that you should find what fits you and your comfort zone. dont go for what is top of the line unless your that comfortable or even got the money. stay within your limit and grow as you go.(that last line sounded cool)

i think your decision should be on how you want to ride. if you just want to learn how to ride than anything under 600cc or 650cc (<- for the SV owners) i think will do. ohh and make sure you feel comfortable on the bike (cause the 600RR honda seat feels like cardboard with black vinal.)
