The condensed version:

Hopping onto the 5N at PB promptly after last call last night, Druskizee and I get cutoff by some hairy-@$$ dude on a cruiser doing about 100mph on the on-ramp. Being strapping young men w/ egos on sportbikes [yeah, we shoulda known better] we open it up on the freeway and scream past his mark-@$$. The one time I glanced at the gauge the needle showed 140+, which means we were prolly doin 115-130. We're normally safe riders for the most part, so that's actually the fastest I've ever gone on the Triumph. 1/4mile later, low and behold, I see sirens in my bar-end mirrors and the green kawi slowly pulling into the shoulder. $h!t. I pull over and Drooski pulls up behind me and kills his engine w/ the CHP Crown Vic [or Impala or whatever they use in Cali] in tow. Being the considerate friend I am, I urge him to gun it and let me take the fall [for reasons I won't post]. He decides to own up and stays.

We talk to them in a mature and polite manner unbecoming of the sour rep. the general public has of sportriders. They take our IDs to the patrol car. We curse alot. They come back, I explain what why we were speeding. The cop actually agrees, but tells us to slow the hell down and lets us go. Awesome.

Thanks to two very understanding CHPs.

That same Harley dude blazed past me too like 3 weeks ago. He just came outta nowhere and passed me on the fast lane on my left side. Scared the crap outta me and I was doing like 85mph.
He almost lost control after he passed me up and almost crashed....moron.

Ha. Akino, "ociffers" was from a Jim Bruer [ala the movie "Half-Baked"] stand up. Pretty funny if you knew the context.

Punani, I believe the "officers" let us off easy 'cause we actually decided to pull over instead of running [which I gather happens frequently, and its quite easy to do on a bike]. My NYC Lt. buddy once told me, "Cops don't like to be humbled by teenagers on crotch rockets." There are circumstances involved that I could not mention in this antecdote. Try not to run from the cops man, there's a million things that could go horribly wrong.

Termin8r, the guys I ride w/ and I always stay reasonably close to the speed limit when we ride. Its just when a wide-@$$ cruiser passes you in your own lane at a 100mph on a curving on ramp, its easy to feel threatened and act on impluse. Don't hate.

Thanks again to those two cops. You rule.

+1, though I did have a police biker let me off the hook once, and never have I had a standard CHP cruiser let me off. But hey, at least they don't accuse me of "giving us a bad name"

(Side note: I don't condone speeding)
I condone safe speeding

If we're gonna talk about people presuming someone around here's recklesss, then shiiiiit you ain't got nothing on me. You should see the flaming I got for telling them about my "friend" who ran from the cops. http://www.hypercycles.org/forums/showthread.php?t=2938

Much love to ya Richard. And much respect, too (my parents taught me to respect my elders  ) However, I gotta say, we're not all as wealthy as you and so I'm not in any way condoning running away, but just trying to explain a viewpoint that for a starving student, a few hundred bucks goes along way :squid:

You guys are missing the point. I understand that people do what they do based on reasons they believe in. I am no where near being an angel, myself, where I do not judge others for their actions (I leave that up to the Big Guy above). However, since this forum was started under the premise of safe riding and the concern for others who ride, posts that deviate from this believe should be subject to criticism (except Donald since he's one-half of an idiot savante). This is why I'm on this forum almost exclusively.

So share those viewpoints with me at a bike night, barbecue, or even a track day, but those types of posts that can influence younger newer riders worry me.

Than again, let's not forget that we have plenty of cops and CHP officers reading these posts.I'll be more carefull what I write. Its not their fault we loose our cool, at times,or show off, or our cohones are getting bigger than our gas tank.
Just when you need a cop/CHP, you wish you can find one. They're doing their job, just like everyones else.Just use common sense....I only had good experience with cops/CHP here.YOU CAN ONLY WISH every cop/CHP officers in other countries, were only as half as good, and polite as cops here!

The LAW may suck..but officers here are doing their best, under the circumstances!

After so many years of running this club, I have come to find that maybe a handful of our better members today used to be lost in their law-breaking ways... some learned the hard way, some learned painfully... but they are here today as positive role-models and are outstanding contributors to our club. They have made many friends and have helped many other riders in need as well.

This club was founded on a few basic principles with which we strongly enforce here on the forums. We do not under any circumstances condone thoughtless actions such as running away from law-enforcement.. the men and women of law-enforcement are here to protect and serve the community and they do a damn good job at it too. Sure there may be a few sour lemons in law-enforcement from time to time.. and that understanding does carry into this club as well that there may be a few sour Hypercycles lemons from time to time as well. We are an understanding bunch up to a point and do encourage those who have been "lost" to find their ways quickly and learn that getting away by doing something stupid is NOT something to be proud of. Rather, please make it a lesson learned and realize your mistakes. Hypercycles encourages its members to help a fellow rider learn from their mistakes and not simply throw them into the fire pits of hell. Everyone deserves a second chance.

Many of the original members and those who have been with us for a several years now are familiar with our very first post on these forums: http://www.hypercycles.org/forums/showthread.php?t=3859

Please read it if you are not familiar with what Hypercycles is about. We are about SAFETY and RIDING TECHNIQUE. Hypercycles is not a club of haters... we welcome anyone of any background. It doesn't matter where you come from or what you did before. All we ask is that you do your best to be a better person. However, if you threaten any fellow member in any way.. be it verbally or physically... you will be banned from these forums. Riding is about having fun, making new friends, building a strong network of people and sharing in our common passion for riding motorcycles in general. Drugs, violence, committing felonies... these things not welcome here. Being a member of Hypercycles has always been a privilege.. it is NOT a right. We are a pretty patient bunch.. and always willing to help riders out. There are members in here who have done some pretty stupid things but have clearly recognized their mistakes and have helped us immensely and provided invaluable insight in helping others stop before another law-breaking chapter for a new member is repeated.

Stay SAFE and keep it REAL yalls.

Now where'd my damn cake run off to????

Moderator, please kill/lock this thread.
I started the thread for the sole reason to share an amusing story w/ you guys. The first couple posts were what I was expecting, compliments on the story, the sharing of similar antecdotes, and comments about how lucky we were [we were!]. I post on this forum because the guys I ride with check it a regular basis. I like that fact that people here [for the most part] are considerate, knowledgable, and post responsibly. I like that its a focused "community" of riders, not a venue for trolling, tools on two wheels, and being an "internet thug" [flaming, name calling, and so forth] like some other local message boards. Though I'm probly more liberal that most of the riders on this site, I believe you guys are tolerable and open-minded enough to let a guy post an amusing story or two w/out sounding the alarms. We both critize ourselves for what we did after the fact, and I assumed any rational person would have learned their lesson from an experience like this. Thats why the adidtional criticism was a bit unexpected.

Wanderer, if your an older, more mature individual, you'd think one would restrain themselves from making direct insults to someone you've never met. Just because you aren't face to face w/ someone shouldn't mean you can say whatever you wish at someone else's expense. And responding to someone callng you an ass does not make you a squid [going 140+mph kinda does tho, haha my bad, it was 2am/no cars]. He's insured now, so you guys can chill, everybody just relax........you *****es [j/k]

I'm glad that those of you who enjoyed the story, did. Thanks for any positive comments. And for the third time, thanks to those two coppers. Mnah, see? [Dave Chapelle reference].

I'm gonna go ride now.

But yea bro, be really careful about riding w/o insurance, cuz it is a very expensive fine. For quite some time, I had no insurance on my car, and I was super-careful and not speeding. I got a ticket for a "california roll" through a red light and I got a $1,200.00 fine for not having insurance.

Now before you judge, let me say that it's impossible to get around in SoCal without a car. And yes, you can be poor enough to be able to afford a P.O.S. used car, but not be able to make the monthly insurance payments. And yes, I realize I was endangering other drivers on the road, and it was risky. If I had a choice, I'd choose not getting insurance only over food, shelter and fuel (my apologies to those drivers-on-the-road who had no choice but to endure the risk I put them through).

I also know there are a LOT of people with insurance who drink and drive, and I don't care how covered you are, you can't bring someone back to life or heal their spinal chord. So please be aware that's a risk we all take when we get on the road on weekends, keep your eyes out for those crazies :shifty:

Of course, now that I'm older, I not only make more money but my insurance rate is lower. Like being 26 makes you a safer driver (well statistically it does). I think if you're a rider, it should lower your insurance rate cuz you're more aware.
