I need a new bike fellas...
Im in the 4.5k price range cause I dont want to spend to much more than that. I have an idea in mind but I will take you opinions seriously. If you can put your honest opinion on why I should choose the suggested bike. You can bastardize the thread...as always, but gimme something to consider as well.

Come on dude this is a Yamaha prevalent site what kind of answer are you seriously looking for? Why are you trying to convince yourself you DON'T want an R6? Why not change the poll around to say "why shouldn't I get an R6"
On the other side of the coin 4500 will get you a sick a$$ SV. Sorry if I'm too blunt :errf: just my .02

I completely agree. It seems everyone on this board either has or had an R6 at some point in their life. You could probably put in the headlines of this site that "riding a gixxer is like having SARS."
On that note, for the money you're willing to put out, I would say SV.

As much as I'd like to say Yam, I must say you and a gix would be a dope mix.

Actually I can't hate on Gixxers, been there done that and it was more than fun! I've also had a F2 and an F3 and a GPZ550 way back in the day. It was just time to go to Yamaha, always wanted one always and always looked at the R6 (since it's inception) as the bike to have. Now I have it, and love it! I can honestly say that I have enjoyed this bike more than any of the others. But each one has a very special place in heart and they will not be forgotten, nor will I ever say that a specific bike sucks until I actually experience it. I'm the type of guy that is not happy until I have what I set my sights on. If deep down inside you always ask yourself more than once "I wonder what life on that machine would be", than make yourself happy and get it. BUT all of the 600's (affordable ones) are awesome in my book

Believe or not I picked the R6 as well. I think out of the bikes on your poll it has the most potential to trick out for some serious canyon carving and trackdays. If you are looking to get into racing then I would really say get the sv. The 550superbike class and the Middleweight BOTT would be awesome classes to race in. I would feel more comfy in those classes then out there with all those crazy 600's! :holymoly: But I have never ridden an R6. Got a chance to ride Brenden's zx6rr it was awesome! I would say put 4500 down and make $100 payments and get that bike if you don't want to race. Just my thoughts. Plus I am trying to rationalize why I should keep my sv. I really think I am going to race other wise I think I would have a new bike. The sv is fun though, but I think you would be bummed on how much work you would have to do to it in order to get it up to par.
I have ridden the gixxer and it was a great bike, just to wide for my liking and out dated in my eyes. But the 04 should be different.

Although I've never ridden a Gixxer and as much as part of me wants to hate on them just b/c I was on the Yamaha side of the fence, once again, I find myself agreeing with you CjrJAM. They are sound racing machines. Just look at Maladin on the 750 and later the 1k. There is no doubt about it that Suzuki can make some kick ass sportbikes. Now style is another issue that I won't even begin to bring up when compared to the beauty of the R6 or even the '04 R1.

04 R1 is in a world all by itself, it is just more than words can describe.
The gix is a blast to ride and it also handles great, but it is a bit bulky (which I actually like). Gix was my close runner up and was not letting me sleep when I was looking for my second R6.

get the f4i you already have a honda and know what its like. the parts are cheap, the r6 has a delicate tranny to be buying used. also i liked my sv more than a 600 inline 4, better in town just not as secure suspension wise but you can upgeade that as needed because you can get an sv for cheaper anyway. plus if you low side an sv you are out like 400 low side mine and you are damn near 3000, so the sv allows you to push yourself harder.

I think you can pretty much eliminate the zx6r since you obviously want the most aggressive sportbike. But why not consider the zx7r or the zx7rr... look what eboz can do on that puppy.
Otherwise, I'd lean towards the R6 as a lot of people have seemed to owned them and you could get help on it if you ever had a problem.

I voted for the GSXR-750. We already discussed this and you know how I feel about them. They are awesome bikes with a good power. Power you can grow into. There are alot of nice 750s out there and you know you can always find stock or aftermarkets parts readily available.

NOPE they had a triking sesh at palomar
The Kawi 6r is great bike. The suspension is compliant but forgiving. The motor doesn't stack up against the others though. the Gixxers have the strongest motor out of the bunch. The R6 is good all around and flicks nicely when properly set up. More twitchy than the gixxer though...

out of those i would take the GSXR750 in a heart beat, but I don't know if its in your price range. second choice would be the R6.
i think without a doubt that Suzuki make the better bike in the 750/1000 class. (this from a Kawi man.)
hmm.... that's a tough call. I love the SV for what it's capable of. But the R6 is a much better performer "as is." The gixxer is a viable bike, but the cost for a 600 is so much more than the Yammie. Probably because no one wants to ride the bubble butt gixxers, which means 2001 and higher for the 600. :( Are you set on getting a used bike? If not, I would seriously be considering the 636. The ergo's, specs, and power on that thing would probably be the best bang for the buck at this time.

i think it is a toss up between the R6 or gixxer 600/750 really. i would just say go with either of those and the nicest bike you come across for the best price cause either will be fine for you. i let you ride my bike again sean too see if you really like it or not cause if you plan on getting an 01-02 they fell different than the 03'. i cant really vote cause i dont know which bike would be better for you. just ride them both and decide.

mmm, haven't heard about chassis issues with the Z. I wonder if Ileen(Randy) might know about it.
 My friend just picked up a Infiniti G35 coupe and ever since he scooped it up last thur (missed bike night because of it) I've fallen in love with those cars. I know it has a different chassis than the Z. Though a G35 would deem unpractical for my usage (a truck would suit me more) and would get me in trouble like my integra does, it feels and drives great. On the other hand, the Nissan Titan is nice too!

Damn, now I gotta defend the Z's honor... The Z shares the same platform as the G35, G35Coupe, FX. All of those platforms are RWD based and used inconjuntion with the V6 Engine. The FM (front-midship) platform allows for the engine to be placed behind the front wheels and allows the car to achieve a 53/47 weight distribution. Balance is not an issue with the car. Power definitely is not an issue (I have yet to see another 30K car put out 287hp on a V6).
The issues that are present are :
1) Understeer at the limit 'dialed in' by the factory (compromising performance for safety)
2) Stiff suspension - mismatched damping/spring rate (fixed as of 2004.5)
All other issues are first year bugs that are correctable through warranty or have been corrected since the 04's came out.
Finally, I have to say that the one thing that the Z does compromise on is luxury for the sake of performance. All the engineering went to the engine and chassis. If you want some comfort, the G35Coupe is the way to go (back seats, leather, sunroof, +400lbs etc) and basically a Z engine and chassis underneath for 36-38K out the door. But the Z is about performance value for the dollar. Nowadays, you can drive away in a Z for 27K out the door!
Arnold, as a Z owner, and having driven the coupe, the Skyline 350GT is the way to go if you seek refined feel with good performance. But for all out performance, the Z wins hands down. Plus the 9K you save could go to some serious mods. ;)
Oh yea... Twin Turbo/Supercharger Kits for the Z are putting down 350-400 hp at the wheels (at 5-6 psi). :D

Yeah Jae, the Z and G35 won a lot of awards and got a lot of praise in their first release year. My friend works at Mossy Nissan in Oceanside and they have a Jim Wolf 350Z(track model) pushing 320 n/a HP. I like the Z, but it's race ergo might and will get me into trouble. When I was heavily into street racing, a E.O.S, Speed Contest, reckless driving, really killed my insurance. I know if I got another sports car like a Z or even a G35, I would definitely go back to my old ways.

Yeah the Greddy kit claimed 450-500 hp gains at ONLY 5 lbs! If that doesn't impress people I dunno what will! Plus I heard that the 05/06 G35's will be equiped with AWD and maybe rumored of a 350GTR!
