Well I found a yellow 1999 GS500 for $2000 on CycleTrader yesterday and Nick and I decided to go check it out. I called about 1 and asked if it was still available and asked the miles and if It had been down, standard questions. They said that it only had 6k miles and had never been down. So we headed to El Cajon and got there just a few minutes after 5, after picking up our preapproved loan check from Navy Fed. We checked it out, looked decent but did have some scratches on the headlight and right side and it was all the way in the back of the lot and hadnt been cleaned up, so we decided to go get something to eat and think about it. Called them back about 6 and said that we would take it so to please start cleaning it up for us. We started the paperwork and went over to talk to the finance person, gave her our check and started looking at a helmet and jacket, and for some reason she couldnt find the paperwork on it. After setting there for about 10-15 mins she says that it's already sold. Apparently she's been working with this guy for the past week trying to get his financing on it, he had to have his mom co-sign on it and she just sent it out at 5. Needless to say we werent very happy about it. This is our 3rd bad experience with them, we had been down there twice before when we had talked to them on the phone and they said that they could give us a certain price on a bike and then once we got down there they wouldnt budge on the price. They did say that they would give us a really good deal on the new GS500 and throw in a free jacket and helmet but not sure if we want to deal with them again.:grr:

i know you covered it already babe but i would like to throw in a little more detail about it - she asked if it had been down and they said it hadnt when we checked it out the front fender was rashed the headlight was rashed the gauges were so rashed there were holes in them and the pipe was rashed - not exactly what comes to mind when i think of a bike that hasnt been down
and the previous two times we went down we called about a bike they had advertised on cycletrader.com asking the standard questions and feeling out if they would take 5k for the bike we were looking at (think it was a gixxer 600 cant remember the year) and they said yea come on down and then like Elizabeth said when we got there they didnt want to go down a dollar
its too bad they shafted us last night the bike was 2k and we had a 6k check i was gunna pick up the parts i needed to rescue my gixxer and a new helmet since mine took a shot when i went down - they lost quite a bit of cash last night i must say

We did find a good deal on a 2001 Ninja500 up in LA so may try and pick that up this week. Figure if we can get a cheap bike, it'll give me a chance to try something out bigger, before I buy a brand new one and It'll give Nick something to ride while he's bike is getting fixed up. There's a '97 GS500 w/ 16k miles on the SV board but the guy wants $2400 for it.

Sorry about your one of many bad experiences with Quincy! To tell you the truth, they suck! They don't give good deals and they d*ck around with customers too much. I tried to stay away from shops that only sell certain kinds of bikes i.e Suzuki and Kawasaki(what's up with that). :grr: Speakin of which, me and Sean went to FBC and saw a nice blue SV650S! ;) My friend Rob works in finance and could probably recommend a cool salesman. Well, keep searching!

Screw em, that bike didn't sound good anyway. I wouldn't want to buy a bike with existing damage anyway. If it's bought from a dealer it should be in semi good showroom condition. IMO The bike represents what kind of dealership it is.

Quincy sucks...they called me and said..oh the owner is interested in seeing your bike. and we have the authority to give you cash at the site...blah blah... I said I was firm and she said...yeah if everything checks out.....whatever. I didn't want to waste my time...

Oh but I got to give them props on there advertisments
if you have a check then don't bother with a dealership. Especially Quinsy! Gotta search for personal sellers

I bought my Ninja600 off those fools. that was THE worst experience ever! I won't get into the story, but their customer service SUCKS. they don't take care of the used bikes that come in, hell they don't even put good tires on 'em. most of the used sport bikes have worn out tires, and are dirty. you would think they would clean 'em up. not to mention they lie and mislead peops on how the bike was taken care of, if the bike was down or not, they pulled that on me.
I'll never deal with them again. by the way I do rec. SouthBay Motorsports, down in national city. Go down there and ask for Aaron, he's a good guy, a true motorcycle enthusiast. If you talk to him tell him Chuck says Hi.

I know but have a preapproved loan for $6000, was sort of hoping to get a good deal on a new helmet and jacket and maybe some parts for Nick's bike, would be really nice if we write the check for a $1000 extra and them give us the cash but that may just be wishful thinking.

I gotta agree with Deno. If you have a pre-approved loan, you'll more than likely come across a better deal off a personal seller. Don't buy anything out of impulse, the right bike will come around. Just be patient. ;)

one more thing. why not step up to the 600 class? If i were spending 6k id rather put it towards something i wont grow out of any time soon.
my guess would be because it's for a new rider. New rider = used bike, learn to ride the fundamentals, then sell it with little loss off resale to get another SS later in the future.

Yeah I'm still wanting a new GS500 but would like to get something that size to practice on before I buy a brand new one. So I'll have something to practice on and Nick will have something to ride before he gets his fixed, then we sell it and buy a new one in a few months.

she isnt a new rider (well riding for a year or so) but she is too short for a 600 and isnt comfortable sitting on them - we have looked at just about every make, model and year of 600 out there and none of them work - i say she has the basics down pat she was draggin her pegs on the ride on saturday :)

I had the totally opposite experience with the Quincy in Lemon Grove. In fact I brought the bike back a week after I bought it and they put new brake pads and fixed the tail light for free. Maybe the Lemon Grove store is just better. I never had problems with them. My buddy is selling a red 500cc Ninja. My details are sketchy so don't quote me on any of this. I think it is a 2001, with 2-4k miles on it. I think he wants $3500. I'm not posative though. I can ask if you want. Let me know.

The bike I'm looking at is a 2001, less than 3k miles and they're wanting $2350 but it's up in LA, it has been down and needs a new fender but otherwise just has some slight scratches.

I know this hasn't ever been down. It's his baby. I don't think he does more than 90 on it.

I heard that the new SV is gonna me lowered by more than an inch for 04 and some people take padding out of the seats. Sorry to hear about quincy, I got a bike from there once and prolly got pretty screwed on it in retrospect. Good luck finding a bike!
