Are you talking about for drag racing? I really wouldn't recommend drag racing for newbies. Launch technics would very from bike to bike. I can launch my F3 at a lot high rpms than you could an R1

Well, you could always strap two rockets underneath it and ignite. That's one way to launch it. Just remember to do a proper countdown from 10 to 1. You may have to have an Class N (NASA) endorsement on your license first though. Good luck and godspeed.

What bike do you have? The proper rpm depends on the bike. Basically you find the sweet spot in the rpm and rev to that rpm steady. Then you let out the clutch slowly. As you get better you can let if out faster. My r6 launches best at 7k rpm. You do need to feather the clutch a bit. This is not a street technique - track only....

What in the world is the "Q" ... Is that something from James Bond?

just hammer the throttle when you want to go... just make sure you hang on because once you hit warp speed your front end will come up only a little because sportbikes are so fast.

when you can see that everyone behind you is so impressed by your skills and when they catch up to you at the next stop light, just hammer it again! Good times!

oh yah and for the exercises... practice laying on your back... because that's where you will end up if you try and drag race as a newbie.

just take it easy bra, learn your bike first and how to ride b4 trying to go fast.

:werd: If your just beginning on ur bike, i say take it easy, as adobo said ... learn the bike first. then slowly improve your skills. more riding time = more experience. and ride WITHIN your limits ... probably best advice i can spit out!

I gotta zx6r. I been to a couple drag races. I rev up to around 8k when the tree starts up. and keep it there right before the tree goes green. wen its time to go, (depending on your clutch action), release it fairly fast. At this point it all depends on the bike and practice. Just make sure to release the clutch slower, or feather it if your front end starts to come up. (practice launching slow tho, this chit is dangerous)

The reasoning behind keeping the revs high, is when u start releasing the clutch, ur engine might bog if the RPMs go too low, which makes for a bad launch. Just don't loop it.

I've practiced launching alotta different ways, and this is the best for me. Might be different for alotta ppl. But I read alot of articles also that show alot of ppl using this technique. Ofcourse the extreme drag bikes can rev teh piss out of it, and drop the clutch, because of their uber skill and wheelie bar, and other crap.

(NOTE: one of the times when I was at Q drags, somebody gave me a hard time because I held revs before the launch {i guess he thought it was a noob move or something}, I didnt say anything at the time, just cause I don't like to start anything. But I beat him 4 out of 5 times {first one i caught the red light}. I have a stock 2000 600, and he had all sorts of full exhaust and sprocket work on his 04 600... he didn't say anything about my launches after that. i think at this point i was crying cuz i was so happy with myself)

sorry for the rant, strangers piss me off.
