So I know a bunch of people are willing to buy that sick Arai or Shoei helmet, despite the cost, based on the fact that they’re rated very well in providing excellent protection among other things. After all, what’s the cost of a good helmet ($400+) compared to the cost of brain surgery if you highside head first towards a tree, right? Well, what if you can spend that $400 to avoid highsiding into a tree altogether? This is now how I see it perfectly justifiable spending the money I did for Keith Code’s Superbike School.

After attending Level I and II last weekend along with Hypersport and a couple other friends, I have to tell all of you who’ve never attended a class like this that the insight you get can save your life. It’s not just about how faster or smoother the school can make you. It’s also a matter of enhancing your awareness of things related to motorcycles that you may have just taken for granted as a rider. All I can say is WOW!

By the end of Level 1, I had not only burned off the “Tyson Chicken Strips” from my rear tires. I had pretty much cooked them off my fronts too! Pictures will follow later for proof if requested. Considering how much I’m afraid to lay down my bike past 0 mph , I can’t believe how comfortable I was by the end of the weekend. The cool thing is it didn’t just elevate my riding skills, it elevated all of ours. To have an instructor follow you and critique you to make sure you learned what they taught you in class, I couldn’t ask for more. Plus, Keith Code, himself, teaches the classes.

Do yourself a favor if you haven’t taken any formal school in motorcycle beyond MSF. Take one. If not Keith Code’s, take Jason Pridmore’s school or Freddie Spencer’s. Elevate your riding skills in the comfort of a track with a professional and you’ll see what I’m talking about. It truly is not a game.

Lee, the next class is in October. Mike and I went during the "All Levels" days where it only cost $345 per level (again worth every penny) since we used our own bikes. There's a 2 day "camp" that costs almost 2 grand, but the way we did it seemed pretty effective. Tiring, but boy did we learn a lot.

To sign up, go to https://secure.echoalley.com/superbikeschool/sign-up/. Take it! I promise you'll get a lot out of it. The drills seem pretty boring at first, but it's no different than boot camp: They make it difficult in the beginning, but working your way through it makes you a better rider at the end.

How do you like the Power Race Tires....I should of got those tires for my track day, maybe I wouldn't of low sided. I used Pilot Powers, time to move up to the Race ones.

Hey Rich,
Thanks for the write-up. One question though for newer riders, like myself. What kind of experience/ seat time would you suggest before enrolling in a school like this? Should you have at least 1 track day under your belt? A few thousand miles? Inquiring minds wanna know!

btw- how'd you like those Power Race tires?

Mike and I were both sporting Power Race, although his was the soft compound while mine was the medium soft. I can't tell you how much confidence these tires gave me not showing any signs of traction loss. They do tend to not absorb bumps very well (after turn 5 or 7 at SOW), but a relaxed grip handled that perfectly (something I learned). Definitely a high recommendation for these tires.

Let me tell you about this gal who attended this class. After being on a bike four times only, she got out there and learned so much that she was nearly in tears at the end of the class. She even gave Keith a high five. When I saw her out there, she definitely was not the slowest. Again, each one of the guys I went with including myself had different levels of experience and every single one of us elevated our riding skills tremendously. It's not necessary to be fast already when going there (speaking for myself, of course), but your confidence level goes up based on your understanding of how to handle your bike better through the turns. Anyone can open up the throttle and blaze down a straight line, but cornering is where I think the sport is really at. "Discover the Art."

Thanks for the info. I've been looking at the Spencer school since I saw it on 2 wheel tuesday last year and it looks great. It's good to hear you had a positive experience.

I hated that little chicane area. . . :ko:

P.S-I was bummed out that I didn't get to ride the 6RR on Sunday. For some reason, my steering head bolt magically disappeared. . . :jackoff: LITTLE GREEN ALIENS STOLE IT! DAMN THEM! DAMN THEM ALL! :beam:

I hated turn 13 and 14 also, but it definitely got straighter by the end of each day.

Mike and I were checking out your bike on Sunday morning before you got there, and I didn't notice anything was wrong with it. However, maybe we didn't look at it that closely. I can't believe someone would take that from your bike. It makes you wonder though if the fact that the school rented Kawis for class had anything to do with it. :shifty:
