I know this is a motorcycle site so there is bound to be some bias but I figured I'd ask anyways. I've got money to either build an M4A1 Carbine (parts probably from Bushmaster) or to buy a 1 piece Ku****ani suit. I've already have a motorcycle jacket however. Which one should I get? The rifle will run around $1200 (I think) and MSRP for the leathers that I want is $1600.

Depends what is more important to you. If you ride alot, especially aggressive backroads and track, get the leathers. But the M4 is a sweet weapon. Where do you plan on getting it? I would be interested in getting one also :), but I have my leathers already.

You can't buy an assault rifle in Cali. But you can buy the parts to build one though although technically, the only sell them for replacement part usage only. The only thing that you have to get at an actual gun store is the lower receiver (Just tell them you're replacing an old one). For everything else; parts kit, bolt + charging handle, upper receiver, and buttstock, you can order online. I'm still looking at the cheapest prices for those items though. On the flip side of all this though, doing it in this manner puts you in the illegal to highly illegal range and you can't really take it to any range either. Which isn't a problem I guess if you live somewhere like in El Centro.

Same thing goes for a bolt with burst or full auto but I'm sure you know that one already.
Wow.. I can understand your dilemma.. heh. M4A1.. sweet weapon (in fact, it's my favorite one in "Counter Strike".. haha)... But just a little inside info on the DL here... I'd say you can wait on the leathers for now cuz you will soon be able to BUY your MOTO stuff hopefully by the end of this month for prices that will most certainly make you a happy man!!! Who knows.. you may find that you just might be able to afford both!

BTW: When you said M4 vs. Leathers I initially thought you were debating between an M4 exhaust system and Leathers. ahaha. ;p~~

Ku****ani is having a blow-out sale on their leathers right now! Last time I dropped by the store, they said they were selling stuff at just over cost because they need to make room for the new stuff. Drop them a line: 877-347-8487 (877.34.SUITS). I talked to Ryan at the store in Venice. If you know your size and everything, I can drop by the store and talk to them if you want (literally 3 blocks away from my apartment).
-- edit --
Oh, and if you do need to pay full price on something, I have a spare 15% of coupon that doesn't expire until December 31, 2004.

Hmm, you make a very interesting offer that may very well tip the scale. This place you're referring to doesn't have a website or anything? The main thing is, will they have my size though as not even the ku****ani site sells my size online on their US website. Right now, it's a toss up between x-small and small (I'm right in between both sizes). And yes, I know, I'm a wee man. :errf:

I feel ya!
The website usually lists the inventory of their warehoues in... I don't remember where. Sizing availability is tough because everything is imported from Japan, so it's not like they can quickly stock up on more. Once something is gone... it's gone. If you know the name of the suit you want, lemme know and I'll drop by the store to see what they've got. I can't remember if that phone number connects you with the warehouse or the store. I do know that there are a few stores out there that are authorized Ku****ani dealers (hopefully, BuyMoto will be on the list soon!). The store I go to is considered an "outlet" and is not all that big. :( So yeah, just let me know how I can help out.

If it's not too much to ask... Could you check to see if they have the K-0020XX Cybertech Suit in either small or x-small? If not, I'll just call the number you gave me and try to find out some prices. Thanks.

Uh why ku****ani?
Why not something less expensive and have some money left over to go towards your rifle?
Get a spidi or astar and be done with it...thats way too much for a suit. Have you ever tried one on?

I can never find a fit anywhere near my size. Even online, they don't even sell sizes near what will fit me. That's the case for Spidi, Astars, and Dainese. The only reason I've got Ku****ani up there is b/c they make them for short ass people like myself.

Hmm.. u know.. if you want to spend that much money, you can get a REALLY nice Z-custom suit made to fit your body perfectly for probably less money too!!

I say just look for a good set of leathers because:
quote: "... it is possible to make a legal rifle from 80% receivers because federal law does not prohibit a person from making a firearm for his personal use as long as it is not an assault weapon (under federal law) and is not for sale. In California, it is *legal* to "complete" an 80% firearm that is not an assault weapon (i.e. an AR or AK series model)...."
The specs on the M4A1 have been banned quite a while back for civilian use (military use is only for on-duty times; and plus you just use the weapons from the armory anyways, not your own).
While federal law allows you to make your own AR series(& other assault weapons), in the State of California, thanks to many liberals and our anti-gun senators, you cannot complete a firearm if it is an AR series (not to mention that you cannot buy one permanently; the ban case was appealed by pro-gun's but rejected). That's why everyone you see building AR-series rifles are from states other than good ol' California. This is true, UNLESS, the lower receiver has a "fixed 10 round magazine", for which you would have to actually undo the takedown pin & open up the upper reciever to gain access to the magazine & load 10 rounds into the magazine (which would be a major pain in the ass and take a lot of time to reload, and I don't think I'll pay that much money to do that).
This "fixed 10 round magazine" is fixed inside the magazine well (the bottom of the magazine does not protrude out of the magazine well, making it look like you have no magazine in the well) is the trick that goes around the Assault Weapons ban laws in California. However, I still nonethelese suggest you just go get yourself a good ol' set of leathers, because you never know when our lovely senators and liberals will come up with new laws and provisions to ban even those. Plus, there is a special section in the california law books just for ARs and AKs.
The SKS is one of the successes of being legal in California with all Assault Weapon specs removed and with a fixed magazine. I cannot say the same for the AR series, and while I definitely want to own one as well, I feel the state gov't will come up with more provisions to the Assault weapon ban, making AR owners have to sell it or turn it over to law enforcement agencies.

That is retarded. So in Cali, I can't buy a lower receiver even as a "replacement" part w/o the fixed 10 round mag? I knew about the retractable buttstock being a no go unless bought as a replacement part but I was unaware of the fixed 10 round map restriction on the lower receiver for Cali, thanks for the heads up.

Alright, I dropped by the Ku****ani store today. They do not have the small or xs of that specific style, but they will special order it for you. However, if you let them know your height and weight, they will send you "sample" leathers to try on. Depending on what you specify, they will probably send you the "Japanese" version of the leathers (uh, not as... uh... "full" as the American version), or the American version. They do have a small in the Japanese version of one style of leathers you can try on for size in the store, as well. For the life of me, I cannot remember the name of one of the two guys I talked to (broken english, but he knew his shiet), but the other guy was Ryan. I'm not really sure how serious you are about this, so I didn't inquire about prices yet. If I do drop off your address and measurements, I can check with Ryan to make sure the 15% discount will at least work.

Thanks dre. I'm going to look into Custom Z leathers this weekend and then I'll get back to you on the Ku****ani situation. Thanks for everything so far though.

----edit---- :You can buy it no matter what, you just can't build and complete the AR rifle in cali anymore.
You can buy a lower receiver as replacement, i believe only if you owned your weapon prior to January 2000, and must have had registered it with Dept of Justice no later than Jan 2001 or Dec 2000, somewhere around there. So pretty much, except for the guys that owned the AR series prior to the enactment of law that completely banned AR and AK series, everyone else that wants those are screwed.
You can always buy other non "assault weapon" rifles.:rifle:

Sure, no problem. It's seriously not that far away and not a hassle at all. Z-leathers are a great way to go. A few WSMC racers I know swear by them. Best of luck!

Hey Dre, just checked out the Z-Leathers this weekend and I still want to keep my options open. In your post, you mentioned they will send you sample leathers. Are you talking about Ku****ani or the store? Either way, that sounds like a good idea if they can get a sample my size.

It's a Ku****ani store (the only one in the US thus far). I was probably talking to one of the grandsons of the man that started the company, because he's the one that decided to bring it over here to the US and open up a store. I think if you call 877.347.8487 it connects you to that store. They really wanted to know your height and weight to try and determine which type of leathers you should try on.

Thanks Dre, I'll call them tomorrow to see if they can send some sample leathers down.
