what?!

hey fellow moto riders and computer geeks. my wrist goes tingly like it's fallen asleep when my arm's in certain positions ex: putting down a coffee mug, holding the phone up, stretching, etc...i talked to my aunt m.d. and she said that i have carpal tunnel. my extended family doesn't know i own a bike yet so i just told them it's from being on the computer. but i think it's a combination of playing first person shooters (left handed WASD) and clutching on my bike. all that i know is that i don't think i'll be able to ride for a while until it "heals" but she said that i pretty much have to wear a wrist brace forever-ever...
so questions...
have any of you gotten carpal tunnel syndrome before? how did you get it? from biking or the usual computers? how did you get past it, if you've gotten past it? what should i do?
all i know is that i shouldn't be riding for a little while. i'm gonna give tomorrow a shot but if it starts to get painful then i guess i'm going to have to lay off for a couple of weeks...it kinda sucks...thanks... :errf:
I used to have it bad when i was a programming student years ago. I also rode at the time so i know exactly what you are going thru. I rarely have any problems now that i got out of the cumputer world. Do you have a stomp pad installed on your bike? This in addition to clamping your legs more should alleviate 90% of the pressure on your wrists. I also like to lay on my tank and change positions on my bike every few minutes. Good luck and there is the surgery option!

stomp pads really do help like Aaron says
also, is your bike buzzy... do the bars or levers vibrate alot?

take three aleve three times a day so the swelling on the nerve goes down, for about 4 day, stay off the wrist for a good two weeks, buy a wrist brace and sleep with it....I had carpul tunnel syndrom so bad i couldn't hold a pencil....I get it once in a while now but rarely...If you don't take care of it now it can end up being serious eneough for surgery...I had to not ride my bike for a month...It was torture but I did it and it is healed now...Oh yeah done't type on the computer with that hand either....

I feel your pain man. I ride daily and work on the computer 12+ hrs a day so the wrist pain gets pretty rough sometimes. I wear a wrist brace at night sometimes to straighten my wrist out and to ensure it is in a good position while i sleep. It helps a little... GL

i was a lil confused about what stomp pads are so i looked 'em up...are they the clear bumpy things that you put on the sides of your tank? i think i've seen em before on someone's bike but more to grip his bike when he cornered. how do those help?
also, yeah i had handlebar weights but i took the left one off to install a bar end mirror. but yeah, my bars are a bit buzzy. should i reinstall the bar end weight and just put my antennas, i mean, oem mirrors back on? gs500e...

I used to have severe CTS a couple months back. I only get it time to time when I lean on something using my elbows. My whole left arm would fall asleep then my pointing finger all way up towards my elbow would be numb. Try the follow techniques to help reduce the pain.
1)switch to an ergonomic keyboard (highly recommend)
2)set your seat to an up right 90 degree position
3)take a break every 15-20 minutes and exercise your fingers, wrists, arms, etc

so who clutches it at stoplights? it's an msf thing that i have stamped into my brain. should i switch to neutral to save my left arm? or is it good for safety reasons?
also, is holding the clutch down on a bike the same as riding the clutch in a car? i know that it's bad because it burns the clutch w/ cars, but with bikes?? idunno...
