I gave Lee's a call to set up my overdue 600 mile maintenance and the guy I spoke to informed me that it would cost me $240 smackeroos to get it done. I was like "nizzle wha" and "watchu talkin bout Willis"? He went on to correct himself and informed that he was giving me the price including a valve adjustment that was surely needed and very much recommended. So I informed him that I was gonna ponder (sorry Arnold, it means: to reflect or consider with thoroughness and care :-p ) the idea. He also went on in saying that normally most bikes need the adjustment and that now would be a good time to do it cause if it is done in the future it might be too late to save the valves if in fact they are out of whack. So to that I say "WTF"? I have never done that to any of my new bikes and have never been advised to do it. Advice....

600 mile service with a valve adjustment? Use the money on something else. Do all the maintenance yourself, i.e.:

Oil/filter Change
Check cables
Lube chain
Tighten nuts and bolts

Check your owners manual and see what the recommended mileage is for a valve adjustment, I would think it would be at least 10k miles, if not more.

You have to break the case open to adjust the valves right??

Oh yea... what do valves do?? I forget. They're hooked onto the pistons or something or what?
