So how is the entering and exiting track going to work at Streets on September 2nd?
I saw some pics from last time and it appears as though people were entering the track at the end of the straight. That to me just seems kind of dangerous. That puts people entering the track where, if memory servers me correctly, those already on the track are carrying the most speed while on the circuit. This puts people on hot pit lane needing to look over their shoulders at relatively high speeds to safely enter the track.
I would like to humbly propose that people enter and exit on the skid-pad. I think this would work best because those waiting to enter the track have two distinct advantages:
Rider has a clear view of all pertinent on track traffic WITHOUT having look over their shoulder while carrying a high speed.
On circuit traffic is at one of its slowest sections of the track allowing entering traffic to more easily match track traffic pace.
This would require track rider to exit the track immediately before the skid pad. This works really well because instead of setting up for the skid-pad, the rider wishing to exit can continue straight and safely exit the track. The rider does all of this without interfering with other riders wishing to maintain pace and continue around the circuit.
Also on the skid pad it appears that the cones were setup on the outside of the riders. Why? When I rode there the cones were on the inside and that left the riders a lot of room to play with on the skid-pad allowing you to experiment with different lines. It was a gripping good time!
So how about it eh?
I like the skid pad entry and exit as well!

In both situations, I agree.
1)From a safety aspect, Each group should enter and exit from the skid pad.
Keith Code has his students start by the tower and enter in by Turn 1. However they are entering from there for each drill so speeds are not that fast.
2)The cones should be set on the inside only. Have all that run off room and the option to choose which line to go is definitely key
For the folks who don't understand what we're talking about here's some ideas.

This seems to make most sense since the track is going to be packed out like it was on 12-12-03

I agree that the skidpad is the best way to get on and off the track for the reasons stated. Plus, it's closer to where everyone is set up.

They put the entrance/exit over by/before turn 1?? Is it me, or does it make absolutely no sense making people exit and enter at the fastest point of the track?

It works just fine Jeff. I perfer it on the skidpad but both setups seem to work.. Btw you exit skidpad, you enter 1/2 way down the straight. It gives you plenty of time to see is anyone is coming..

I kinda disagree. The problem I see is that if you send someone off and it looks good to go, its often hard to time when a rider is going to be there or not especially at the speeds they are travelling. I dont want to have to check my shoulder and look at a blazing rocket coming my way when it can be easily avoided by entering the track elsewhere. besides this track day I am more concerned with newer riders and not people that have been there a few times.

DIT will decide, but +1 for lost, pit lane gives you plenty of time to see people, and your no where near the exit zone waiting to enter which cuts down on the chance of a collision by out of control riders or just a plain accident.
superbike school does it that way.(seperate points)

Its kool mang! I've been at track days with both, and either way works! If someone is in the skidpad area you dont go. If they are just entering the skid, you have plenty time. Like i said before, i preferusing the skidpad for entry and exit.

Hey, that's my dad and brother in that picture from the '03 SoCalSV track day!
[shameless plug] The '05 SoCalSV track day is on October 3 at BW [/shameless plug] :)
I've once done a track day at Streets where we entered the track from the hot pit lane and didn't really like it. The way Trackdaz does it coming off the skid pad is the best IMO, and it seems to be everyone else's as well.
