Meet Time: TO BE DETERMINED
Meet Place: TWO LOCATIONS (1) SAN DIEGO (1) LA/OC
I am new to this board but a regular on SCS and SoCalSvRiders so forgive me if this ends up in the wrong spot.
In the wake of the devistation from huricane Katrina, I am personally taking the lead on a ride for relief.
I think all of us have seen the aftermath of what may go down as the worst natural desaster in history. We all know that there are going to be hundreds of thousands of people that will need assistance and support from across the nation and from around the world. I believe this is an opportunity for all riders in Southern California to come together and show their support for the people who have lost everything.
I intend to coordinate a meet at possibly qualcomm stadium or another large capacity parking area for registration/donation gathering. I am also looking for someone to coordinate a meet somewhere in Los Angeles or Orange County area in order to do the same.
My idea will put the groups in their respective locations at the same time, with a designated ride route, and meet in the middle somewhere as a show of togetherness to support the people that have suffered from huricane Katrina. Suggestions on ride routes are very welcome as I hope that I can get a couple people to help out with this plan.
I think that the best possible donation recipient would be the Red Cross. If anyone knows of a specific donation recipient that would be better suited than the Red Cross, please let me know.
I think that all riders participating would feel that a donation of $10.00 would be sufficient enough as I anticipate that the hearts of MANY riders will be generous enough to put up $10.00 or more. Moneys from both groups will be gathered and taken for conversion to a bank in order to issue a check to the recipient.
I will be contacting local radio stations and television stations (if anyone has any specific contacts, please let me know) in order to get the word out as much as possible. I will also be creating flyers that I will distribute to all the local motorcycle shops (if the LA/OC volunteer would do the same, that would be great).
I will be seeking donations from shops as well to further our efforts to make a difference for the people who have suffered from Katrina.
If anyone is willing to head up the LA/OC portion, please let me know via PM and if I have any volunteers to help me out with the Planning in San Diego, please PM me.
I hope that all of you can open your hearts for the countless people that are suffering from huricane Katrina and help as much as you can to support other Americans that right now have a very difficult path to recovery.
