hey i know theres already a few threads on back protectors, but I'm looking to get the Alpinestars Tech Back and was wondering whats the difference between that and the Race Tech Back? Or if you guys recommend any other types of back protectors, looking for a lower profile one though. Sucks that I missed that Buymoto group buy alittle while ago. Thanks for your help!

The Race Tech doesn't have shoulder straps, but it snaps into certain A-star suits. I would get the race tech protector if your suit has the snaps for it, otherwise get the other one.

And those back protectors are kinda thick, so if your suit is already tight you might want to try something else, like the Bohn or Knox protectors.

The SPIDI Back Warrier looks to be a very good one.. lower profile and the R&D put into those back protectors are quite amazing (as I'm sure they are with most of the top brands as well). BuyMoto had a bunch of these in stock a few weeks ago.. I think we may be down to our last one but they come in different sizes as well to fit your body dimensions.

I hate the A*'s back protectors. Th ethign is an uncomfortable piece of crap if you ask me.

I purchased the Icon "Field Armor" vest...

I love the thing. Not only is it a back protector, but it has a built in chest protector. Not to mention it's cheap... retails at $99. I spent $199 on my Bohn armor cool race one which is detailed in the link in crpytyk's post above one (similar to the Teknic Knox) and it was OK but I didn't feel as though it was superior enough of a back protector to command that price. I decided to try out somethign new and I really like the Teknic one, defintiley impressed with it.... only thing it is way hotter than my Bohn. I sweat like a maniac... but then again it was 107 outside when I was using it. ::shrugs::

Does it fit snug and comfortable at the same time?
I'd seen that in a magazine and wondered if they were worth a shiet.

The big plus to this back protector is that you can wear it with no shirt on the streets. Goes real well with the Bling gloves from Icon too. :squid:

I seriously cant believe you actually bought that POC
Well you did come back unscathed so "it is what it is"

Hey I just liked the fact that it has chest protection. Way way way back when on old Julian Hwy when I took out that road sign I always thought that thing could have hit me directly in the chest then I got to thinking how unprotected our chests are relative to the rest of our bodies when we're geared up. So I thought I'd try it out. I'm not 100% decided on it yet as I did like how much cooler my Bohn one kept me in the sweltering heat. At any rate I thought I'd try it out.. plus their advertising campaign is marvelous!

do you know if that icon piece has been CE tested/approved?

I'm looking for a new back protector as well because I lost my Bohn :(

this BMW one looks comfortable...

http://www.webbikeworld.com/r3/back-protector/bmw-back-protector/

and I like the idea of collar bone protection and it is CE Level 2

I'm pretty sure my BOHN wasn't CE approved, but was "designed to CE standards". I liked that it was lightweight and comfortable. So I'm debating between getting another one or the Joe Rocket Speedmaster (Tpro Forcefield) which is also CE Level 2.

I'm not too sure on the hard shell protectors because of mobility and have heard that the plastic pieces may twist or flexand dig into areas of the back. Just my opinion and what I've heard.

also remember that most back protectors are one time use just like helmets...

So now that you've had the Icon "Field Armor" vest for a few months, how do you like it? I'm thinking about getting it because it has chest protection too, its cheap, and I've seen some guys wearing it under their leathers but never asked them how they liked it. How do you think it would do in a crash??
